Lots of players envision playing out of position, the coaching staff still needs to identify if your skill set fits.
Like jllanclos said, Ike had a long NFL career, but it never would have happened as a Baldwin running back.
So, there is no way Todd Lott's skill set was properly used last year. ... Even if he did say all the right things at the end.

Just give the guy a wood bat next spring. Maybe some chowder. He’ll be all SunBelt 1st team.
Congrats to Todd. Good news is he should get a decent draft and plenty of time to prove he can't play in pro ball. Most need to prove they can play. A few, like Todd need to prove they can't play.
If he blamed someone else, then he would have transferred.
Hopefully, everybody moves forward with a fresh start. The coaches jobs are to put players in spots to be successful. This has been a big enough fail for the blame to be spread around.
Where do you read where anyone said "he" was playing out of position?
Nowhere.
He would have never made it to the NFL as a running back.
Coaches had to reidentify Ike's best position. Sometimes they do sometimes they don't.
No where will I say it is solely up to the player, I know of some players who insist on playing QB, it doesn't mean the position exercises their best potential.
You said lots of players envision playing out of position, he wasn't. The coaches didn't reidentify his position, he did. You have no way of knowing how good he could have been at RB in Bustles offense which produced some great RB's. Majority of time position changes are out of necessity. The coaches have a need of depth at another position or a player sees more opportunity to play at another position. Ike also hadn't played football in 2 years when he finally got on the field so i would imagine there was some rust in that first year. Luckily for him it worked out.
