The coaches have a need of depth at another position or a player sees more opportunity to play at another position. Ike also hadn't played football in 2 years when he finally got on the field so i would imagine there was some rust in that first year. Luckily for him it worked out.
Fwiw, in those 2 years, Ike put on a show at RB in practice against the starting defense. The defensive coaches knew what kind of athlete he was

*That starting defense had Tillman, Franklin and Kyries Hebert (still killing it in the CFL) in the secondary.

    Bunt first, ask questions later.

As a junior Ike had a 91 yard game on 11 carries. 2nd leading rusher on the team in 2001.

    Ike loved the spotlight.

I agree, it was Bartel who convinced everyone of the move.

ps Ike and Peanut were seniors on the same team, and went in the same draft.

Well that went from baseball to football real quick.

    Same topic.

Utilizing talent vs (hopefully not) squashing talent.

Todd hit 6 in the HR Derby. That was 2nd most in the first round, but because they did head to head matchups, he was eliminated by the guy who hit 7.

Love the sound coming off his bat when he squares it up

Talbot doesn't like all that leg kick he's doing.

Wonder what Jake Wells will think of this.

Lotts power is incredible. The sound of the wood bat says it all.

Effortless power is what that is

Definitely. He is leaving a lot of load and power on the table. He is getting only minimal hip and shoulder separation and he is not getting all the way into his back hip. Once someone gets him comfortable loading his back hip and not back foot/knee and getting some separation in his hips and shoulders, he will be tearing the cover off.

What we have seen from Lott so far has been natural strength. When he gets the technique implanted in him, he will be a monster.
