Bobby is a great con man. We’ll see how well he performs over the next four to five years. Don’t expect another regular championship, and who knows maybe he’ll win a tournament trophy again. Expect many 5th-8th place finish in at best a mediocre conference. If that’s not bogus I don’t know what bogus is.
Sir, your Marlin bashing is tiresome. The man just won 27 games and a conference championship. He has built a solid foundation for this program to thrive. Could he perform better against better competition? Sure, but to say he is a bogus coach is beyond ridiculous. Get over yourself.
Marlins non conference regular season record vs top 200 RPI teams is 19-35 in his tenure at UL. Only two years in his UL career has his team had a winning record vs teams with RPI of 101-200. Go ahead and defend that if you want, but that is pitiful. I will post his conference finishes and his conference record vs top 200 RPI in the morning.
The landscape of college basketball has changed dramatically since Marlin took control. Being in the SBC means we are as irrelevant as the SLC or any other lower conference. This has made scheduling and recruiting more difficult. All in all I think Marlin has done a mediocre job until a couple of years ago. Last years team was talented and entertaining. That team is the blueprint for what he needs to do in the future. Mix in solid HS players with P5 transfers looking for an expanded role. The key will be to make sure the transfers are not malcontents and can handle playing team basketball. It worked great last year. I think Marlin deserves to see he can replicate it.
I agree he should be allowed to see if he can replicate it. I just am extremely dubious about his ability to do so; particularly if the schedule improves.
As promised yesterday: Marlin's in conference record at UL vs top 100 RPI teams is 7-15, and vs RPI 101-200 it is 28-35. His conference finishes in chronological order are T2, 4, 8, 3, 4, 4, T6, 1.
That 54-86 record overall vs top 200 is a pretty good indicator that Bob's teams won't do well if our scheduling improves.
