He did not win the starting position outright at the high school he played last year. All I'm saying is that before you become an SEC QB, you should probably win the starting position at the high school you play. That may happen this coming year but it did not last year.
Thanks, my point exactly. He shared time last year with another that will not be playing QB at the collegiate level. All I was saying was that before you become an SEC QB, you probably ought to win out the starting position at the high school that you play. He did not do that last year. Then I said he will probably do that next year.
What is the problem with any of that? And further, why should anyone be fighting the actual facts on a message board of a school that it is said he is not interested?
Good question, no one has answered my question as to his actual interest in UL. I'm not making any judgments wherther or not he should be offered, but why some people seem to be actually upset with the fact that Coach Napier has not offered him. At this point, it doesn't matter which programs have offered him if he has no interest in UL. I'm going to give Coach Napier the benefit of the doubt on this one and let others debate it. But I've seen way more stranger things happen in recruiting than the fact that he has not been offered by UL. JMO
IMO as a salesman...never not approach a target bc someone says they’re not interested...I’ve had people tell me I’m wasting time, that business will never switch vendors....massage that relationship long enough and you’ll get their attention & potential work....should also state they must be worth it...
T isn't saying that no interest was shown by UL. There may have been some indication he has no intent of staying in Lafayette for college and/or has no interest in UL. No coach goes ahead and offers to a sure loss. You don't put your name on a list just to have your name on a list. Further, if the body of work is incomplete, we may gauge there's time for reconsideration (either party). There's an implication in this thread that if Tech and others offered... and we didn't... in our own back yard... we're doing something wrong. My first assumption would be our staff knows something we do not. It would not be "Napier must be an idiot... he isn't even looking in our own back yard and protecting our local high grade stock.".
I totally agree on the don’t offer just to offer...would look bad if we offer just bc and he selects someone else...I was just under impression we’re really not expressing any interest in him...just stating we can make a push without offer initially...again all assuming he’s worth some effort...
If you are actually in sales... I think you know what "opportunity cost" is. Don't let some bunghole in your delivery system convince you there's equal return on equal time spent. I will always drop off a business card and attempt to educate any potential customer on my offering. I will not spend time or generate "exercise proposals" on people I deem as low success targets. Using your resources wisely is excruciatingly important. Do not think for a second that local talent hasn't been given the first pass sales evaluation.
If I approach what appears to be a really hot babe at a distance... and after my opening icebreaker she says, "I don't date guys with great sex skills"... I absolutely know that I'm out. Why bother? I move on to the next babe that appreciates a master craftsman. I'm not going to offer her just so she can put me on her "Facebook wall of offers". I'm taking the risk that my friends will say, "dude, she's a babe... and she's very accessible!". But true friends know, "I have a nose for babes.". If I didn't offer... there's more to the story.
I guess it all depends on what product/service you’re pitching...I’m not in widget or off the shelf items...so IMO providing solid proposals is a must to get their attention...now after couple of missed opportunities...we re-evaluate moving forward amount of proposal resources we will spend, if any...however I strongly believe a visit/lunch once a month or quarter hurts no one and has paid dividends for still being there literally years later when competition slips up...
Relating to football...i can admit I don’t know much about recruiting...but if the kid lives in your backyard, but has others on the radar...I just would think a visit with him every so often can’t hurt to stay in his mind...
