He's currently got a two year window.

This was his best team by far. The only other season of note, finishing 3rd and tournament champs with two dramatic heroic come backs. Other than that a very pedestrian career at Louisiana.

What’s the hurry? Nobody is gonna steal him away. Believe me he’s had his hat in the ring for a bigger gig since year one.

If I'm adding correctly, after the third year (last) he would have been making $530K. That would mean next year would be $555K and the final year would be $580K.
Yeah we are paying him way too much cut it down and save some of that money for a new hitting coach

That may be what is negotiated. A lower buyout would protect the university and a salary increase would benefit the staff. That would seem to be a win for all involved. He had two years remaining so they could have waited one more year. You never let your coach go recruit with only one year on his deal so it would have likely happened at this time next year. I understand some would have preferred to wait in the event next season is a big disappointment. Not sure why they are doing this now other than some private understanding it would happen with either a regular season or conference tournament championship. I know some here may question this decision but the only opinion that counts here is Dr. Maggard's. As has been stated here in the past, he thinks very highly of Coach Marlin. Also, the vast majority of the people who go to the games regularly do not post here and they support the staff.

Not in the last couple of years since his adopted daughter was in HS at STM. She recently graduated so that is no longer a factor.

Obviously that will not happen as Dr. Maggard (nor any AD) will not grant an extension which involves a salary decrease. Every one has an opinion and that opinion has value. However Dr. Maggard's opinion trumps all others by a wide margin in this case and this is his call.

Mike, don’t you think people know this? Also do you really believe that fan sentiment plays zero in the administration decisions? Fan sentiment is like parsley in a gumbo. First the roux, then the trinity, protein, salt, and spices which parsley is just one minor element

Yes fan sentiment is a consideration. Sentiment of the majority of people going to basketball games is support for the staff. That opinion may differ from some who post here but those numbers are not nearly enough to influence Dr. Maggard at this stage.
