According to 247 Sports, of the top 100 Louisiana football players in this 2018 class. We signed 1 and he was ranked at #84.

UL has to start competing for kids in the top 40-50 range. We definitely need to to sign 3 or 4 from the back half of that group of 100.

I mentioned that in the other thread. Hell we need to start competing for the top 100, let alone top 40 or 50. Tulane with 7 and La Tech with 6 out of the top 100. We got out recruited big time in the state compared to those 2 schools. Hope that starts after this year.

How many of the top 100 were uncommitted and or unsigned after the early period? the ones this staff would have been able to recruit?

I am curious (don't know) how many of those 13 were signed today?

This I probably do know, how many of those 13 were first approached (by the school they signed with) a month or so ago?

Not sure but I looked at last years class, and I believe la tech had 6, we had 2 and Tulane had 1. I think ulm also had 2 in the top 100 last year but none this year.

Edit: also looks like 6 for la tech, 5 for Tulane and 3 for us in 2016. Counting from my phone so could be off though.

Yearly, the problem with any Top 100 list by Rivals, 247 or ESPN is that 50% of those kids are ineligible. So then, it becomes a matter of competing for a 3rd of what is left. In a deep class, the Top 25 are the cream. Athletes that are ranked from 26 to 50 are so close in ability that those rankings could be reversed and be just as accurate. From 51 to 100, there is not much separation either. And in most years Louisiana may have 90 to 125 FBS prospects, with the bottom 3rd really being marginal. The secret is grabbing kids like Mitchell that may have started just one season or were injured their junior season, can't really go to summer camps because of recovery and have very little video on them. Elijah McGuire was one of those kids that disappeared because of his injury in his junior year.

Why would 50% of the top 100 recruits in the state be ineligible? All things equal - we should be up there with tech and Tulane in the 5 or more a year out of the top 100 instead of getting 1 or 2 like ulm.

Tech has 2 in the Top 50 and Tulane has 3. There are number that haven't signed and those are likely ineligible. Outside of the Top 50, the rest a very close in ability. We have to do some damage in the Top 50, the rest are highly subjective.

And didn't Elijah Maguire also have grade concerns his senior year? I thought I remembered hearing that teams like LSU were interested but needed his grades to be a certainty in order to commit.

What is the story with Porter? Do they expect him to be eligible or is he hope for the best recruit? I find it unlikely that he turned down all of the offers it shows him getting to come here. They were likely retracted at some point.
