344 lbs, big schools were worried about how much he needs to lose
For those worried about the Cajuns ranking being low in the SBC, consider this. 8 players from this class will likely be contributors in 2018. Those include the 3 JUCO's, the 2 grad transfers, and three freshman. The three freshman are the punter Burns, the big guy in Porter, and LB Kris Moncrief. Why do I say Moncrief? Answer is because a staff member told me after the program last night that Moncrief is by far the best player we signed yesterday. That is a surprise to some as some of his other offers were by FCS schools. That may be because he focused on offense for most of his HS career as a RB. Once again point of all this post is that the rankings/stars etc. are meaningless at our level. Getting eight players to be contributors in Year 1 is something most would be pleased with.
Pretty sure he's eligible.....I think they are scared of his weight. He's gonna have to lose bigly, 30 to 40 pounds, to play. we couldn't pass on this one...
If you get and offer from Vandy you are eligible
Hamilton was the same weight when he signed. He started four years and played in the NFL. There is a precedent in getting a contribution from someone like Porter. They can start getting this guy in shape come June when he enrolls and participates in the summer workout program.
Not only Porter, but our overall OL and especially our DL. For Hud's first 3-4 years, we had a really hard training regiment that had our players tough and in great shape with no injuries. Things fell apart when Hud bowed down to player requests to stop the hard training, then he lost control of the locker room. Our linemen are overweight and out of shape and injuries started to mount. Practice tackling was at a minimum and that was reflected in our play. We likely have good enough talent to win. We certainly have the skill players to win. Put these guys on a weight loss schedule getting to more ideal playing weight, go back to training hard, put on a good strength and conditioning program, provide better coaching, unite the locker room, get injured players back and redshirts eligible, add the new players we signed, and watch what we will accomplish this season.
With the NCAA's Feb. 7 National Signing Day having come and gone, what follows is a list of UL's known additions (signees, midyear additions, blueshirts) along with links to recruiting-related stories in which more can be learned about the Ragin' Cajun signees ...
