Sounds like a tall climb... but it really isn't. Our prior program allowed each of these categories to slide. All Napier has to do is what he knows how to do... and every one of these situations will improve. With some serious effort, they'll improve radically.

Things fell apart when Hud bowed down to player requests to stop the hard training, then he lost control of the locker room. Our linemen are overweight and out of shape and injuries started to mount. Practice tackling was at a minimum and that was reflected in our play. We likely have good enough talent to win. We certainly have the skill players to win. Put these guys on a weight loss schedule getting to more ideal playing weight, go back to training hard, put on a good strength and conditioning program, provide better coaching, unite the locker room, get injured players back and redshirts eligible, add the new players we signed, and watch what we will accomplish this season.
Players requested easier workouts? Not sure if serious

Take into account that a lot of the players that we would have recruited were already signed or committed to other programs by the time we started the process, just adds to how hard it would have been to put together a big time class. We lost 2 top commits to SEC programs and lost a battle to Kiffin. With all that we still found pieces that fit needs and guys that we can redshirt and develop.

Expectations are high with a new coach but it is a process that takes time. Napier doesn't come across as a guy who doesn't have a plan. We still have 2 scholarships available and next year Louisiana is loaded with talent. We are fine and this staff will put together a great class for 2019.
Clutch, I listened to Coach Napier's comments on the class and the task they faced coming in after the early signing period, putting together a staff and losing his DC to Alabama. If anyone thinks losing Karl Scott didn't hurt us, they might want to 5 Star DB Patrick Surtain Jr. about why he chose Alabama over LSU. All of that is true and unlike a number of people on RP today, had we signed Southall and Dungy, I would have been fine with this class regardless of what happened with Jones and Knight.

My disappointment is not closing the deal on Dungy and Southall. Neither lose had anything to with the hurdles they faced, it was just about closing the deal. I expect better of Napier and his staff, and there are no excuses for it.

Now for those that are upset about the lack of 3 stars in this class, I take you back to Hudspeth's first class in 2011, he had only Harris and Aucoin as 3 stars in the class. Now let's look at the number of 2 stars in the class that were major contributors in this program.

    Chris Ringo
    Juice Hamilton
    Harry Peoples
    Darryl Surgent
    Mykhael Quave
    Jamal Robinson
    Larry Pettis
    Octravion Anderson
    Dominique Tovell
    Chris Prater
    Jemarius Moten
    Trae Johnson
    Jake Molbert
    Sean Thomas

It's all about identifying talent that can play in your system and coaching them up in the right positions. Win and adding more 3 stars to signing classes will become more common.

I noticed yesterday that’s Surgent was listed as a 2011 recruit by 247 but he was definitely a bustle recruit.

Lost two commitments last minute to SEC schools Ole Miss (Knight) and MS St. (Jones). Add FL Atlantic signed Southall. Also lost Gooden who earlier narrowed his list to three P5 schools. Bottom line, coaching staff did excellent job considering first time early signing period was completed prior to staff being in place and very late start handicapped us. Napier is very pleased with kids we signed... now we watch their growth under this new staff!

How about the recruiting loss to Georgia State? Dungy....

Gooden, Knight and Jones are reasonable. Losing two linemen to FAU and Georgia State is a concern.

That will stop when Napier gives them more reasons to come here, like a 10 win season or a national ranking, or beating SEC schools.

Point is, what we are missing is street cred. We can hire anybody in the world and pay them all of the money in the world, but until we SHOW them that there is a new sheriff in town, not much will change.

If we get the last two scholly's filled with a DT and OT, I would say a grade of B. The "B" is for laying the base foundation for the next class. This class is similar to Hudspeth's first in that I believe a number of these signees will be major contributors eventually.

Right now, I'm giving him the benefit of doubt that it will stop after this season. But both of those had nothing to do with lack of staff or a timetable, just closing the deal.
