This probably falls more to strength and conditioning coach. Those guys will play a very important role in our success or failure.

We already pay players. Could you go away for a third of the year?

Makes sense. Looks like he has a Long athletic frame that can add 25 lbs easily.

BasinBear has provided valuable insight into how we can be successful. That is to find players that have ability to significantly improve with proper coaching. Find the 2 star that plays like 3 and 4 star guys after they develop. Key is to recognize that potential and the willingness of the player to work hard. Think of someone like Bryce Washington. He was a decently rated recruit when we took him but not thought to be one of the top players in the state by any means. No experts predicted he would be one of the nation's leaders in double doubles as both a junior and senior. Basketball was able to project when they took him and then he was developed. We need to do the same in football. I could care less if we took all two star players as long as they project to be contributors in their 2nd or third year. Don't worry about where we rank when recruiting is over. Recruiting is very important but recruiting rankings at our level are meaningless.

Enough already with everyone being reasonable, don't you realize that the sky is falling?

    1. LaTech kept their awesome DC.
    2. We lost our DC to be a position coach at the University of Alabama at Tuscaloosa.
    3. This new whiz bang coach of ours hasn't even filled out the entire coaching staff and the season starts in just 7 months.
    4. Where are all the 5 star recruits?
    5. I'm sure Tulane and McNeese are taking advantage of the problems LUS had with the freeze.

    Wake up Cajun fans !!!

I try to keep my post short, but it sometimes makes people misunderstand my point. I am not knocking the kid or the staff for targeting him. My point is that we have been targeting “diamonds in the ruff” for a while now...with limited success. I agree with people here that on paper we have better coaches, so we should expect better player development. I just think projecting athletes who are not even rated is not a long term recipe for success.

Ricky Bustle targeted diamonds in the rough all the time on the OL and he had tremendous success in doing so. Chris Fisher, Andre Hubble, Jessie Newman and the Cox kid were all two star or lower projects.

Hudspeth recruited prototypical OL and they were slow and overweight by year two. I’d take a 6’4”-6’5” 265-275 pound OL with great feet over a 315 lard ___ anyday.
