Didn't say he wasn't an exceptional cornerback. He also became famous for the punch. It's okay that he can do both.
When someone does something exceptional over and over it can be called a learned skill. Brian Mitchell was an exceptional returner. Other Redskins have never approached his success. Still the Redskins could not pencil in a game breaking return. I’m not trying to dispute your view that turnovers aren’t things you count on.
Most of the times the best teams get the plus turnover battle. Even when they don’t they still usually win.
Bottom line here.
If you are going to play "bend don't break" defense, you are not going to force turnovers.
If you are going to blitz and stunt all of the time, you are going to get some turnovers and give up some big plays.
The trick is to gather as much talent as you can and as good a staff as you can so that your defense can naturally stop the offense. The better you get, the more turnovers will naturally happen.
We don't know what style of defense Scott will even run ... let not jump off the edge just yet
