The caller used the analogy of the younger Schapp's reporting causing the Alabama coach (Price, I assume) to loose his job and suggested the Advertiser was doing the opposite and covering up by not running this in the sports section so as not to cause Lee to loose his job. Real good cover-up there, huh? Anyway, Foote answered that it was a decision by the editors that this story was of broader interest than just sports so they decided to run it on the front page.

There may have been more questions but I didn't hear much of the 6-7 hour.
I just hope if/when coach Lee and the Cajuns are finished with this the Advertiser still thinks it is "of broader interest" and Runs the vindication articles(3) about how it is not good reporting when you TRY to MAKE news on SOMEONE ELSES REPUTATION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

FOR A COACH WHO "DID" SOMETHING WRONG HE SURE WAS HAVING FUN WITH THE KIDS "ALL" WEEK AT THE UL BASKETBALL CAMP. COACH DID NOT SEEM TO HAVE A WORRY IN THE WORLD, AND YOU KNOW COME TO THINK ABOUT IT NEITHER DID ANY OF THE PLAYERS OR OTHER COACHES THAT WERE THERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  2. NCAA [THURSDAY] ADVERTISER: NCAA report due in six months

    Tracking the Advertiser's ventricosed story
    | Sunday | Monday | Tuesday | Wednesday | Thursday | Friday |

The University of Louisiana can expect to find out within six months whether its men's basketball program will face NCAA penalties or more questions about allegations made by former recruit Berry Jordan.

Kent Barrett, the NCAA's assistant director of public and media relations, said the school will be updated in coming months on what actions the NCAA is planning to take.

"We don't comment on investigations in progress, and I don't know where we are in the process (with UL's case). Our bylaws require that in six months we let the school know 'this is where we currently stand and what point we are at in the investigation.' "

Jordan, who signed with UL from Kilgore College in 2004, said coach Robert Lee paid for him to attend summer school at Florida Community College in Jacksonville, Fla., and that twice he received payments of $150 each from the coaching staff.

He also said the staff provided a bus ticket to his hometown of Jacksonville.

    Bruce, bruce, bruce . . .

According to you and the Advertiser fans of Louisiana have 2 negative potential outcomes to look forward to in the next 6-months?

What a bout a positive outcome? Just listing the negatives is not good fair or balanced.

Maybe, they can report it all the day we play in the NO Bowl. That should be about 6 months from now.

    I just dont get it.
You spoke earlier of "FACTS." Well, which part of KATC's "UL VERSION" wasn't fact?

You're right, you don't get it.

Gosh, maybe they're interviewing transfers because the player who made the accusation is, uhhhhh, a transfer??

Your clearly don't have a clue either. When ask what you know, you responded with some ridiculous post about free room and board. What is obvious is that your intentions are just to continue to post your propaganda anywhere you can, making accusastions. To bad that all you have proven to be is ease dropper that over heard some conversation. Are you Jordan's girlfriend?

UL Basketball I Canceled my Home Delivery of the Advertiser, this A.M.

I emailed my cancellation to the Advertiser this morning and just called to confirm it!! I no longer wanted to give any money no matter how little to an organization that would make so much out of so little at this point. Sure write an article, but cover both sides and wait and see what develops. Do NOT be mean spirited towards people specifically Dr A who has meant so much to our community for so many years. He has brought in more monies and compaines because of what he has done with this University. Case in point the Technology Center and UL's Computer Science Dept(#9 in the WORLD), along with Lafayettes fiber optic cable(96 strand)which he had a lot to do with, was sited by an outside source going to make LAFAYETTE, LOUISIANA the Tech Hub of a (5)FIVE STATE REGION, and Bruce Brown, and Eric N. of the Advertiser are going to write 4 articles as of now about something that is at this point and INQUIRY??? Dr A, Nelson and Coach Lee know what can and can't be said as per NCAA rules and if those answers are not good enough for Bruce and Eric then tuff!!! This should not be grounds by which they should slam these individuals, the University and our community by making news with the (4)front page articles on what at this point is a NON-ISSUE!!

I have NO problem with reporting something good or bad, I do have a problem in the nature of which these articles were written.

I hope others will do the same and consider no longer getting the Daily Advertiser!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bruce used to wright from his heart, I did not know he had recieved a "TRANSPLANT"!!!

When I spoke with the Advertiser this a.m. to confirm having cancelled my paper, they were very nice, and like it was NOTHiNG at all stated it was cancelled and did NOT even try to get me to stay!!!

As I am happy with them using the UL and Louisiana verbage, I am equally unhappy with the manner in which this series of articles were written and displayed. I really did enjoy reading the paper in the mornings, now I guess I will have to read another paper or just watch the news and get it free on the radio and internet!!

    DaddyCajun taking a breather!

I commend you for taking a stance...Like you I believe good or bad that they have to report it but not when it is done in the manor that this was. If both sides of this story would have been told and they would have stated from the beginning the situation and that it was only and inquiry by the NCAA I would have no problem with it but it wasn't handled that way.
I do not have a subscription to the advertiser and at this point I am very glad I have never had one.

Ragin' Cajuns Re: Former recruit claims benefits (newspaper goes nuts)

The daily advertiser should be renamed the Daily Enquirer. This paper is an absolute joke. I grew a sincere disdain for the Enquirer several years ago when it published stories with absolute lies for months and months. This was a story that I had first hand knowledge of. I would read the paper at night and laugh because what was printed was the furthest thing from the truth. What is diheartening is that what is read in the paper is (for the most part) regarded as fact among the community. I recently resubscribed to the paper because our football team was getting better (and I use that term loosely) coverage. About a month ago I canceled my subscription once and for all for various reasons - couldn't bill me correctly, couldn't deliver paper consistantly, everytime it rained the bag WAS NOT tied (paper soaken wet), everytime it didn't rain the bag WAS tied, etc. I called, and called, and called to complain about these easily correctable problems and after about three months of complaining with no results I said F*** IT! I'M TIRED OF READING A NEWSPAPER THAT GOES OUT TO THE EXTREME TO PUT THIS SCHOOL, ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT, COMMUNITY, ETC. DOWN. LAFAYETTE AND UL ARE VERY UNIQUE PLACES AND WE LOVE IT HERE. WHY NOT PROMOTE WHAT'S GOOD IN THIS COMMUNITY? WHY NOT REPORT THE NEWS AND NOT SOME BS STORY THAT MIGHT SELL A PAPER (I JUST ANSWERED MY OWN QUESTION)? WE WANT THE NEWS. AND THIS IS NEWS, BUT FRNAKLY I AM SICK AND TIRED OF THE NEWS BEING SPUN IN A WAY THAT MAKES PEOPLE BELEIVE THAT WHAT THEY ARE READING IS 100% FACT. YOU MAKE ME SICK ADVERTISER.

I DO NOT BELIEVE ONE THING THAT IS "REPORTED" IN THE DAILY ENQUIRER. I DO NOT BELIEVE COACH LEE WOULD PAY A GUY WHO NEVER STEPPED FOOT ON THIS CAMPUS, MUCH LESS LIFTED A FINGER TO HELP OUR ATHLETIC PROGRAM. THIS GUY IS A USELESS SACK OF EXCREMENT THAT IS REALIZING THAT HE HAS SQUANDERED AWAY WHATEVER CHANCE HE HAD TO BE A PRODUCTIVE COLLEGE ATHELETE. GOOD LUCK TO YOU BERRY JORDAN. I HOPE YOU THINK ABOUT WHAT A WASTE YOU ARE WHEN YOU ARE DIGGING DITCHES FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE.

Thank you for letting me rant. I am stepping down from my soap box, but I will leave you with something my dad taught me at a very young age...

Believe half of what you see and none of what you read.

We are on the same page Daddy! I cancelled my home subscription as well! It just makes no since for a local organization or group of local citizens to take part in the attempt to destroy the reputation of the most dear establishment in our city!
