There are instances where that vehicle makes sense.

Tax credits for my manufacturer had temporarily phased out the year my car was built.

Even though I bought it used, I get what you are saying. The car would have never made it to market without incentives.

I'm glad I have options. My pickup gets 12 MPG. My EV gets at least 10X that. And charges in 15 minutes on road trips. Anyone who spends an hour charging doesn't know how to road trip an EV.... Tesla Powerwalls don't cost $60k... So much misinformation in this thread from people who are really at the back end of the learning curve.

I found one in 2020, same car with 30,000 more miles, sold for almost double that ($16,900) during the pandemic.

In west Texas the follow up question to your 12 MPG is that with or into the wind. Witnessed that exact discussion over F-250s in a Lubbock parts store. Most had a 2 MPG swing.

$16G is the cost for 2 units

Two Powerwalls (26kw) = $16k, price includes hardware. My latest quote on a good quality 26kw generator was $15k including installation. The generator requires service, periodic inspections and fuel, not included in cost. Don't need solar panels with a battery backup, but for the sake of argument if I throw in the cost of 10 solar panels that produce 10,000 watt hours in 5 hours of sunlight, that's another $2100 bucks. Mounting brackets, which anyone who can use a screwdriver can install, another $500.

My solar system requires no maintenance, is silent and produces no fumes. The generator is loud, requires maintenance, and produces waste gasses.

I'm trying to do some comparisons. Can the Power wall run a whole house (100A, 220V)? I have a 200A service, no natural gas, and think my max load is in the 100-125A range. I'm looking at 3-4 days after hurricanes being without power.

Are charging cables really in demand?

Seems to me like everyone that needs one, has one.

I hope all of you have an opportunity to hear one of the presentations by either Mark Zappi or Terry Chambers. Both describe energy today, near term (5 years) and long term. I pay a lot of attention to their stories. I like UL’s research positions in their areas. Solar and hydrogen in the long term large scale.
Locally, our solar array on Eraste Landry not only provides all electrical needs for daytime athletic area but we sell energy back most days. Storage research is making headway. Will be solved.

They cost a lot, and yes there’s a black market out there just like cat converters.

I’ll see if I can get a summary or a video link. Both have testified before committees and have secured big bucks for research.

They're difficult to steal on most EVs these days. Charging ports lock onto cables automatically and cutting into 240V cables is incredibly hazardous to your health.
