Yeah: we agree. The Shrine coaches are running plays these players will run in the NFL to see how they'll do, with zero regard for winning a football game. Wish Eli could've caught one or two out of the backfield, but apparently he showed some of that in practice this week.

He answered a lot of questions today, though, simply by finding holes and breaking tackles up the middle.

The fact that his was the only touchdown only helped. LOL

---The things to remember about the ball being run in the middle are the different sets, play action , and blocking schemes---Zone blocking, Zone read of everybody on the defensive front, traps, counter pulls, H back schemes, and more that are used to run with quickness or during play development!!!

And if an NFL coach can mastermind an offense that produces holes for Eli to run through, more power to that coach. Succeeding at anything offensively has to do with producing multiple play threats. There's a difference between launching a small quick back through a gap... and pounding him into a wall.

Our biggest Hud fan on here thinks he exonerated our poor use of Eli this past year. The question is... Why did running Eli between the tackles work this weekend and not this past year?

I post on substantially diverse forum subjects. Even when it comes to UL football itself, I exchange with others on a wide variety of topics. You focus on defending Hud. I want Hud to succeed... because that means UL succeeds. He's ego'd out because of people like you. And it's going to cost him... and UL.

We know Eli was hurt for a good portion of the season. Is it possible that the foot/ankle injury limited his ability to plant and cut, thereby limiting his opportunities on the edge?
I realize it is an all-star game and he had all-star blockers but arent the defensive guys also all-stars? And wouldn't a running play up the middle be the first thing the D works on?
I dont think its as simple as "Hud stupid".
