2016: LA the new "official" abbreviation for stats, crawls, etc

Baton Rouge will never ever call us UL or Louisiana...the only chance we have to make the casual college football fans call us that is for ESPN and the AP to be on board and even that will take several years to stick and the older folks to die off because they always call us ULL or USL, just like they call Troy, Troy State and Texas State..Southwest Texas. It will take our administration to go all in with ESPN and the AP, not just half assed attempts. Plastering it on our football field and our jerseys alone will not do it. Until then we will never be UL or Louisiana on a national level, only to our city and Acadiana.

I stopped fighting this fight. It is not our jobs or our medias jobs to remind people and try to change their minds about what to call us. That is our administrations job and our marketing department. I will continue to call us UL and Louisiana but I am not telling other fans what to call us until our admins step up and we arent fighting this fight alone.

Checking basketball scores this morning in the Houston Chronicle. It shows McNeese St. 88 Louisiana 47. I assume they were playing Louisiana College. Our name debacle continues until Dr. Sndecides to take a firm stand on use of Louisiana and LA. It appears our recent press release or whatever the hell we sent out is being ignored by the media and by the SBC. What gives with the SunBelt? I thought MAT said Bruno at ULM was in agreement with our use of Louisiana.

Ul Lafayette, UL LAF, Louisiana Lafayette, LA Lafayette, take your pick. They're all used every year by someone, somewhere. The more we try to "correct" some people, the more determined those people become to use whatever name it is that they want to use for us.

No matter how many times I refer to us as UL in conversations with my LSU grad next door neighbor, he still calls us ULL. He'll never change. I refer to his beloved Tigers as LA State when the two of us visit, and though he doesn't like that any more than I like him using ULL, he still refuses to use UL. I quit trying to correct him long ago.

this is the first time ive ever seen lower case, It is clear there is an agenda against us, so even if the ADMIN had said and done the right things to the right people all along I doubt it would have mattered. what can they possible do to change it in the future?
if any English majors are out there, I cannot think of a situation where the first letter of a state's name is lower case?

The issue right now is two-fold. First, the SBC needs to be notified by Savoie, and they would honor that request if it does in fact come. As of right now, the SBC has only heard from the athletic department. Second, ULM has notified the league that, if the SBC were to accept our brand (Louisiana Ragin Cajuns), then they would brand themselves as Louisiana Warharks. The league cannot have two "Louisiana" teams.

There is currently hope for some type of compromise, but that will be done between Savoie and Bruno. Its possible there could be some announcement before the end of the month.

One of my best friends is a big ULM guy. I have come to respect their point of view. There needs to be a middle ground between the University of Louisiana Ragin Cajuns (which is currently illegal) and ULL/Louisiana-Lafayette/Lafayette/UL-L/etc.

It's pure BS. This is Bruno calling Savoie's bluff, knowing he'll cave. Monroe would be incredibly short sighted to get away from ULM. It's a recognized brand now. And to do it out of spite would be extra idiotic.
