To be fair, there are several guys who have not stepped up and made the position there's or shown that they can be consistent. Robe also said that every time there is a hole, they plug it with Joe Robbins. That leads to changes elsewhere. And we only have one Joe Robbins.

On another note, I was disappointed that the costly defensive mistakes last night were made by veterans. Conrad's throwing errors obviously. Then the botched double play. I put that double play ball fiasco on Trosclair. As the senior leader he should have taken that double play himself with authority instead of getting panicked and firing the ball at Kasuls from 1 foot away. Then Thurman letting a very catchable ball on an attempted bunt get by him. It was called a wild pitch but it was a little above belt high on the inside part of the plate, very catchable.

It was our veteran leaders that let down our pitcher who was in control of the game.

Positives: Evan looked really good and comfortable in that atmosphere even when things got tight. Our freshmen got things going in the hitting department (Poncho and Kasuls). They weren't intimidated at the plate early in the game. Kasuls had a whole new approach at SS. He was aggressive on defense. And the obvious positive, Sensley with the big hit in the big situation.

To sum up, we are making improvements in some areas but not others. Defense must improve to win consistently.

I looked back my stats post from earlier this week:

Cajuns put up 5 runs on 6 hits last night. In their wins, they average 7.5 runs on 10.9 hits. Prior to last night, the Cajuns overall averaged 5.4 runs, so they were average last night, but hit production was 3 less than overall average of 9.6.

Pitching, the Cajuns gave up eight runs on 11 hits. Four of the eight were earned. In their losses, the Cajuns give up 10.6 hits, 6.38 runs, 5.38 earned. So hits were even, runs last night were less than average loss numbers and they gave up one less ER than average last night. Interesting that when you consider that the 4 ER last night is slightly higher than the 3.3 they gave up overall, on average. It just means that the four unearned runs were the difference.

Tony is very likely to decide the search for his infield set can't include constant changes. He was answering one issue by introducing another. He's probably going to choose an IF and stick with it. It's time for them to own their role and hone it from here on out. I'm looking at the positive of the danger of Sensley's bat. Everyone knows hitting is contagious, and the mental side of it for the lineup is knowing the opponent is threatened. If only Clement was in the order, I think our bats would start to take on the threat we should expect.

But again, I think Tony is going to have to look hard at what he has as an IF and stick with the same folks at each position. Batting has played a role in his decisions, but it has finally come down to both veterans and newcomers making mistakes. It's time to stick with a unit and clean things up IMO.

I think Conrad or Trosclair needs to go to the DH (one playing second base), move Robbins back to third putting Harrington into center, and leave Kasuls at SS. JMO

No need to over analyze this game. We need a fixed lineup period. You can't play this game looking over your shoulder thinking about maiking a mistake. This is a game of mistakes and failure. Robe who is this baseball God should know better than this. My opinion is Talbot's recruits versus Deggs recruits are playing a role in this shuffle. Talbot wants his guys in.
