Thread: UL at Troy Game 3

All I know is I REALLY like Robbins at 3rd. NOBODY plays 3rd like Robbins.

I REALLY like Mills, Herrington, and Edwards in the OF... (and of course Clem will replace one of these when he returns).

Trosclair seems much more comfortable at 2nd and that is a good spot for him.

Pinero at first - especially if he continues to hit the ball.

I guess platoon Kasuls and Antchak at SS for now...

And you gotta somehow get Conrad in the lineup... DH when he's not in the field?

I find it very hard to make a case for Antchak. The ONLY thing you can say about him this far is that he has some hits. His defense at the most important spot on the field, other than the mound, is shaky at best. Kasuls is young, but has major upside when he catches up to the game.

As much as Robbins has looked like an animal at 3B, I think you still have to have him at SS for the better total infield despite his range maybe being limited. Conrad can play 3B adequately, and at times brilliantly. Pinero has locked down 1B in my opinion. Tros at 2B.

I agree with OF Mills, Herrington, Edwards. DH Sensely all day long. Sooner or later his power will show up in waves.

more importantly, this logic applies to the season as a whole. a baseball season is a marathon, not a sprint.

In past years, we've pretty much known who was going to be in the lineup every day.

This year you can make a case for
    Pinero
    Trosclair
    Kasuls
    Antchak
    Robbins
    Conrad
    Sensley
    Edwards
    Mills
    Herrington
    Clement
    Thurman
    Poncho

That's thirteen spots for nine guys.

And, you can expect the shifting to continue depending on L/R matchups and scouting reports on opposing pitchers.

Many of you will say "so and so should be in the lineup everyday"

In reality we only have a few of those guys right now.
Does righty lefty make a difference always? Point I am trying to get at, maybe a certain batter is just better than the average and his counterpart is just worst than the average. If we are not talking dozens of points average advantage, isn't the better batter the guy.

Express, good pitching beats good hitting; but good hitters hit either leftys or rightys. Stubborn hitters have problems with same side pitchers because of the direction of ball movement; but good hitters have no problem, because they are more than willing to hit the ball to the opposite field if it is on the outer part of the plate moving away from them.

My thoughts exactly. Just because Antchak is a JC guy, doesn't necessarily mean he is THE guy. He and Kasuls can duke it out for that job next year. I think your lineup gives the best defensive and offensive look they can put out there. That's pretty good speed in the outfield, and all of those guys are batting very well. That's basically the best defensive infield we are going to get, also they're experienced, and can all hit.

So all things equal you go with the righty lefty thing, but most of the times things ain't equal so you take the better batter. That's my thinking so then I am also taking the best fielder if his bat is better anyway.

I'm not a big baseball expert but my take is that baseball is a game of averages. Over the LONG HAUL righty's will hit lefty's for a better AVERAGE and the same the other way. Sure if you have an exceptional hitter you leave him in no matter the matchup but otherwise you play the averages

That is what I said, except I don't think it takes an exceptional guy, just a better guy than his counterpart.
