The vote is this Friday, and then the discussion will turn to whether or not to split the other sports as well.

Isn't the association at risk for losing sponsors with the split system?

It is absurd for the public school principals to be ok with having public/private schools play each for district championships but to condemn them from playing each other for championships. This frenzy of trying to make everyone equal and happy needs to stop because the only one being hurt are the kids who are being taught something opposite than what the real world is all about.
The "public" schools are thrilled to play the privates during the season to get the big gates and concessions from their crowds, as long as they can discard them for the playoffs. If they split for all sports, the private schools will strongly consider picking up their toys, leaving the LHSAA, and forming their OWN association.

In the lower classifications, I can see where the public schools may have been able to gripe a little.. but in 5A, the VAST majority of state championships over the past 25 years have been won by public schools (5 total, 4 by Evangel, and 1 by Rummel).

If the private schools leave the LHSAA and form their own association, what does that accomplish? At that point they are still split from the public schools.

Privates won't leave the LHSAA. Personally, I'm against the overall split. Split needs to be for lower classes, especially 2A. Need to do away with 5A and drop down to 4 classes overall. Need to change to open enrollment statewide. Any kid in a parish can attend any school in that parish. That would be the best attempt at evening the playing field in athletics.

If there is a split (which I oppose) then to me the most palatable one is the one mentioned in the paper the other day. For each class one half of the bracket (16 teams) are private, the other half of the bracket is public. That way both public and private have an equal opportunity to make the finals. You would have a sort of superbowl in each class matching the public and private school champ.

Again, I prefer NO SPLIT. Establish the transfer rules, then enforce them. Other than that let the chips fall where they may.

Splitting only individual classifications was ruled unconsititutional because one class can't supersede the constitution in place for the whole. Basically you cant have more titles in one class than others, though that gets confusing when they group private classes together. The principal at Many had proposed to split 2A only but that was thrown out.

Anyway, they're going to vote on all the proposals to modify the system for more sports and other variations on Friday.

To be clear, the vote Friday is on other versions of splits that they're weighing. The status quo has already been restored and the 2013 split is officially ratified by the Executive Committee as of yesterday. So they are definitely split in football still. Modifications and other sports splits are going to be voted on.
