That scheme is standard stuff. We didn't introduce a defense others are unfamiliar with. Quite the opposite. We are now operating a defense similar to other programs. Our program is the one least familiar with it. Each week that passes, our defense (players) will get better at it. I can't forecast how we'll do against Ark State. But, there's no film advantage going up against this defense. We're operating assignment football. That "8 men lost in space" was our downfall. Preparing against it was a joke. We can now make truly valid assessments of our defensive athletes... and I think we're going to be impressed. I have no problem with waiting to see proof on the field.

I elaborated on our prior scheme faults and the benefits of our new defensive scheme adjustments, at length, in prior posts, well before the GA State game, where they finally began to materialize. My comment about this thread not taking off... was not about it being massively active... but that it should trump the activity of any other thread right now.

And even what Hud and staff did and/or attempted to do offensively against TX State, was very much in line with what I believe capitalizes on our available talent... and seriously spread the field this past Tuesday night. Our sideline to sideline game was double the trouble compared to any prior game this year, and we included and shuffled our play sequence in much much headier order. I wasn't just looking at TX State's athletic and/or scheme reaction to our operation Tues night... I was looking at what we did, when and how we did it... and the personnel we used. We truly utilized our offensive weapons very well, at the right times, for the first time this year.

All those questions didn't seem positive to me.

Totally understandable. But my biggest fear was not whether improvements to scheme would solve our issues (because I flat out know they will). My issue was whether Hud was too stubborn to make the right adjustments. My nightmare is over... whether others are still having theirs or not. Hud made the correct system modifications (or allowed others to make them) this past Tues. Regardless of everything and anything else... just the fact that he allowed the correct adjustments to be made... is monumental. Hud's prior rhetoric indicated that he was highly confident that he was right... no scheme or philosophy changes need be made... and "execution" was to blame. He converted... and we are on the road to success. And I'm stoked.

I think the reason this thread hasn't taken off is because of the timing of the game. Personally, when games are on the weekend, I have a lot more time to be all in. With the game being on Tuesday, it was cram in the game and continue normal life at my house. Too many busy people under one roof who rely on me. At any rate, that's got something to do with it, I presume.

I was infamously critical of Mark Hudspeth for 3 weeks, so I'm obligated to give credit where it's due. I believe a telling sign in a truly gifted and successful coach is his ability to shift and evolve. Coaches that tailor their program to the personnel are the ones that usually come out on top, and Hud looks like he's grasping this principle. And I'm highly impressed by that, because for a moment there it seemed like he was going to be the stubborn type. Defensively, the huborus wasn't such that he couldn't admit the problem. That, in and off itself is a great sign for the program going forward. Sometimes leadership is knowing when to ask for other's opinions. Hats off to Coach Hud, James Willis and all that were involved. This team was ready to dominate Tx St.

I felt like our players were allowed to be themselves. They weren't slowed by over thinking. They played football. The reaction time difference was staggering.

Now, I also know it's one game.
That's the way a self aggrandizing blowhard says be was wrong.

Txst watched 4 games of film and had their scout team run what they saw our defense do schematically and personnel wise and we came out and did something different and you say that didn't put them at a disadvantage? Wrong. You are now saying that the fact that Ark St gets to see the changes and can prepare for them makes no difference? Wrong again.

That's exactly what I'm saying. 90% of film review is evaluating opposing offenses. Ark State isn't going to be the least bit "baffled" by our defense. We aren't using a special defense. We are using the same defense Ark State normally faces. We didn't shift schemes to trick people. The Ark State offensive staff is going to need 10 seconds to convey... "they abandoned the 3-4 read and react and are implementing a 4-2-5 corner press coverage" to which they're all going to say "got it"... spending another 10 minutes looking at 10 positioning adjustments we make under certain offensive sets (which again they'll say, "basic stuff").

Speaking of blowhard, don't you have some favors to be performing on the coaching staff, now that they've.. Done their job?
