Of course they matter. I'm not pretending that didn't suck tonight.

But what matters MUCH more is a battle-tested group come crunch time.

What are you going to do - pinch hit for Butler and Strentz every time the chips are on the table in a regional?

What about when you go 12 innings on Friday, lose a heartbreaker, and need 5 frickin arms in 3 days just to survive the thing?

So yeah... I guess I'm saying that these coaching moves were looking far beyond a midweek Tuesday night game vs. UNO - no matter what side of the Basin you watch it from.

Whoever made the decision not to pinch hit at the end for both Butler and Strentz had their heads up their _____.
    This.

I've been saying for years that the musical chairs out of the pen is a bad idea and it usually rears it's head a few times every year. But hey, I'm not the coach and obviously Tony is the expert as none of us are coaching DI baseball.

The choice not to pich hit for Butler and or Stretz is beyond me. Butler did nearly hit a homerun earlier in the game but that doesn't explain leaving Strentz in knowing that he has been struggling. At least try to squeeze one or two in with Butler.

Losing to UNO is prob pretty devastating to the team rpi and very embarrassing. They did play well but 7 runs should be enough to win a midweek game....

    Edit reason: stupid

Exactly, you need a productive out right there. To tell you the truth, I wouldn't have minded seeing Butler bunt right there. At least you know for a fact he gets the run in and you move the runner over to 3rd for Compton with less than 2 away. Then there's also the possibility of Butler being safe at first and/or Conrad scoring on the bunt like we do sometimes. I just don't see how you allow Butler to swing away in that situation with the way his game was going all night.

I mean the guy had 2 PINCH HIT BOMBS just last week for crying out loud.

And yes, since we didn't use him the 8th, I was blown away that Butler AND Strentz didn't get pinch hit for after their strikeouts and popups all night.
Low at bats or not, clement has produced. Hindsight is easy to look at, but if he ropes one (like he has done all year) it wouldn't have been a bad call.
Strentz has been struggling a lot, butler had been on a hot streak until tonight.

Since this is our first midweek loss, what didn't you like about the wins?

Yeah, I guess Butler just may not be trusted as much as other guys with getting the bunt down. I would liked my chances with the bunt and hoping Compton hits a fly ball.

Maybe because Butler isnt a good bunter and he's been hitting the ball hard including a triple earlier in the game.

We pitched by committee a week ago and threw a 3 hitter and beat Tulane 16-0. Pitchers didn't have it tonight. Bad hitting night and we still scored 7 runs. We got beat, move on and try to go 4-1 this week.

Not sure why we had no errors. Butler dropped two balls. I think they accounted for at least 5 runs.

So I've been asking this question to myself for weeks. But it's time to put it out there…

Why is Jace not hitting cleanup? I mean, I've seen him hit cleanup a few times this season and he seems to struggle, I know the pitches he will see are supposed to be better in the 6hole, but by now, you know teams have a scouting report on the guy and they know he smashes, I think it's time to put him in the 4hole and stick with it.

I'll qualify my statements by saying, "I'm not the coach". So there, you don't have to remind me. Just an observation, the guy is so unbelievably clutch.
