Thread: Back at No. 1, Cajuns planning with finish line in mind

  1. Default Back at No. 1, Cajuns planning with finish line in mind

Even in the face of a five-game week, UL coach Tony Robichaux has his eyes focused much farther down on the calendar than that.

It’s why he played things safe last weekend, and – after playing non-conference midweek games tonight at home vs. New Orleans and Wednesday night at McNeese State – he may play things safe this weekend as well for the nation’s No. 1-ranked Ragin’ Cajuns.

"That’s because UL is focused on the big prize, which STARTS with a trip to the College World Series (emphasis mine)."

That's the difference between this team and every other team in Cajuns history IMO - including the 2000 team.

The mission STARTS with getting to Omaha. It doesn't END there.

The mission STARTS with finishing the season strong...getting a favorable regional-super regional draw that should be dealt to a dominant team...taking care of business...then heading to Omaha and seeking a National Title.

Naturally... I totally agree. We aren't in Omaha, and we may not get to Omaha. Some of the best teams in history never made it to Omaha (I'm guessing).

Point is, though: the goal isn't getting there. The goal is winning the National Championship.

When's the last time you can say that about a Ragin' Cajuns team... honestly?

Softball always has that mindset. The 2000 team picked up that mindset as they got hot (again) late in the year.

But these guys believe they can win the National Championship, have the talent and ability to back it up, and are willing to do what it takes to lift each other up.

That's why that 8 run inning was encouraging for me. These guys find a way to pick each other up, virtually every single time they step between the lines.

The post-season can't come fast enough. While I'm enjoying the ride, I want the postseason to get here so we don't have time to cool off.

Ask the 2000 South Carolina team about that. We've got to stay focused a game at a time. This opportunity is too good and too real to be talking about a goal starting at Omaha

  6. UL Baseball Re: Back at No. 1, Cajuns planning with finish line in mind

The team's goal, todays goal, is to beat an inferior UNO team like a red headed step child. Then and only then does the team worry about the BrokeBack nation. But us fans, we can walk on cloud nine all day long.

How can we insist on being called Louisiana, and call others "Brokeback nation?"

Serious question. Disrespectful and distasteful, but I guess that's what message boards are for. I'll stick with McNeese.

I'm really having to unlearn a lot of bad habits I picked up from ragin pagin that spoil my enjoyment of Ragin' Cajuns sports.

We diminish who we are when we stoop to this kind of stuff.

But I guess I'm in the minority on that one. Wouldn't be the first time!

The only thing I respect about McNeese died over a decade ago. My sister in law did some teaching there after she retired. Sadly she did not get to enjoy the fruits of her labor.

Sorry but the golden rule is for people not institutions. And that institution along with the Hoax were a party to the very issue you bring up. If they had not carried that law suit we would not be having this comment.

I second that jllanclos. The results of our teams should speak for us. When we were all stuck together we needed to resort to name calling to make us feel better about our teams. I get the feeling we are much better than that now and our teams victories and the campus and athletic building projects have separated themselves from the other schools. This is also being noticed by the other schools and their fans. Old habits are hard to break. A football loss to ULM would have devastated me in years past but after a couple of bowl victories I can put some of these setbacks into perspective. I agree we should take the high road over the noise and clutter of the other state and conference schools. Our teams are doing the smack talking for us.

I third this. All the petty name calling stuff is just childish.
