I think you better read the text of the act addressing the name, it specifically says no athletic use of University of Louisiana.

We only use LOUISIANA. We do not use University of Louisiana. So, we are not in violation of that law.

Jay said the media has been begging Martin Hall for a statement on this for months--to NO avail! He doesn't understand WHY they'd let all the progress we've made in branding our name be shot to hell in one fell swoop. Jay KNOWS how much damage this has done in how the national media will refer to us. He BEGGED for anyone from the university to come on his show to answer questions. Didn't happen, and he's not holding his breath for it TO happen! He DID say that he thought the fan base was owed an explanation.....doesn't think we'll get one.

What I said is YOU always offer capitulation. In fact I do not think Acadiana University is even an option under the current law. UL at Acadiana is a good option. It meets the law, and kills the damned L. ULA is acceptable, we can still be Louisiana, and live with those calling us Acadiana.

The law applies only when "University of" is used. When using ONLY Louisiana, there is no violation of the law. So, we were not "cheating the law". That is why we have been using Louisiana and branded ourselves athletically as Louisiana. Academically, we are still the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. This is no different than Texas, Nebraska, Wisconsin, North Carolina, Nevada, etc. When UL is used, the city tag is required. Instead of using LA as our reference or just an "L" like Michigan "M", the university decided to use UL-L. Use of ULL was a reference the university asked not to use, then it comes out with UL-L. We could have done this legally with Louisiana and LA, but screwed the pooch. Those of us who have followed this since not just 2000 when we got the new name, but since 1984 since we lost the University of Louisiana name.

Unless you have been a part of this, you won't understand our frustration. We are no threat to LSU or any other state school with our Louisiana reference. Don't understand why you are against it. But, your post is indicative of what we face around the state. Looks like our President just gave in. We can't get a response from him, so we don't know why he did what he did. I am curious as to why you would object. I am looking for a clean dialogue and there is no reason for anyone to get ugly and start name calling just because our opinions differ.

First, you guys lose credibility when you compare yourselves to Texas, Arkansas and Cal. These schools have decades of tradition using those names and UL does not.

Second, the classless personal attacks on your own administration and that pathetic attempt to brow beat ESPN by your SID is not winning you guys any friends for supporting your arguments.

Someone that I spoke with is a past Alumni President told me that he feels Dr Savoie is just researching the best way to come out legally with the end result we have all been fighting for all along!

I certainly hope so, and hope he does his research very quickly SO that a statement to the Cajun Nation is put out soon to CALM the RAGE!

you are certainly not trained in the practice of law, cant get a "mistrial" 29 years after the fact. And a judge graduating from LSU LAW School is not grounds for recusal.

I think the 1985 Case should be deemed a MISS TRIAL as LSUAMC@BR Alumni JUDGE never recused himself from a case that should have NEVER gone to TRIAL, as the VERY SAME way LSUNO changed its name is the VERY way USL was VOTED 17-1 in FAVOR to change USL to UL under THE LAW at that time!!!

Do you also realize that the law requires every school in the UL System to use the city tag following its name? Not just Louisiana and ULM. For ex., Louisiana Tech University at Ruston or McNeese State University at Lake Charles. Yet, no school follows that law. Do you call them out too?
