I don't think it would make it even enough. The reason the FCS playoffs work is because there is an equal playing field.
Even if we did tell them that, we are still playing at the Oregons, Oklahomas, and Alabama's first round every year granted we win our conference outright (and how often have we done that in our schools history??). I know this system will never happen, but I just don't think it would be good for our program or our fans. We would be staying at home a lot more often than not.
More accurate would be what the FCS was 25 years ago....Boise St. Nevada, Louisiana tech, Fresno St. ULM, Northern Illinois, Southern Miss etc. I understand it would be sort of a set back but let's face it, if the P5 leaves all these schools behind, there is nothing we will be able to do and something will have to be done. As long as the current FCS schools won't be in with us, I would not have a problem with it.
I would also be in favor of schools who didn't make the playoffs play in bowl games so we don't lose that. More realistically this is the group we would be in most years and this could be sort of a compromise between a bowl/playoff system especially if the P5 school tend to seperate. Still give us a shot at the big boys and a National Championship but also keeps us in the bowl picture if we have an 8-4 season.
If you took BCS rankings to rank the 24 teams.
1. Florida St.
2. Auburn
3. Alabama
4. Mich St
5. Stanford
6. Baylor
7. Ohio St
8. Mizzou

Bid out Semifinals to big bowls.
Bid out National Championship.
Now could we beat South Carolina? I'm sure Vegas would have them a favorite. But I would love for these kids to have that opportunity.
This is where you are wrong. If your conference has an automatic in for the championship then you can recruit to that. It makes playing at UL just as valuable as at Alabama. OR more so for now. This is why the big conferences do not want a playoff like basketball. Because UL could be the next Gonzaga of football. It is easier to (for now) play at UL and have a shot at a national title than to play at LSU. Because our conference is weaker and we would have a better chance at winning our conference than LSU does at winning theirs. Winner gets automatic seed and everybody else is at large. 16 Teams, 10 conference champs, and 6 at large! Let the bowls bid for the games. Then the other bowls can offer consolation games. This would be balanced and fair, so you will never see it happen! the big five know this!
