Look i want to pay this man millions for what he has done and for what he has the potential to do with UL athletics. The reality is he will not stay too much longer, he will leave for a bigger school when they add a few zeros to the end of his check. As much as he likes it at UL, he will not stay and retire at this school. I want to pay him what he desires and deserves, but i do not want his salary to drain funds ad inhibit UL from hiring a top tier coach when he leaves. If we renegotiate his contract then we need to have expensive buyouts for Miss St and other big schools that he would like to go coach at.

UL is paying Hud the maximum that the state allows which is only several hundred thousand. All of Hud salary above that amount and any future raises compels from private funds raised through RCAF. So any increase is having zero effect in the University / academics. It's not like those monies would be donated to academics if not going to Hud's salary.

I think that the picture clears up a little when we have a better take on the UL future and what it could be---First there is the conference membership and where we are --this although not hurting too badly in getting the non Big 5 kids it is really stopping us from getting kids at the next level---we are getting good 2 stars and a sprinkling of the 3 star guys with about one third of last year's class in that category----this puts us at the top level in the South of non BIG 5 conference schools---If Hud stays he keeps this going and starts getting a couple of 4 stars and nearly all 3 star guys and with this comes the ability to compete with all the lower levels of the BIG 5 conferences---it is at this point that we would become attractive to a BIG 5---the game plan would be to keep the Ws coming in the form of 8 and 4 to 10 and 2 seasons with Bowl games at season's end---With this more RCAF money, more revenue from ticket sales and concessions, a possible student athletic fee, and additional revenue from boosters with facility naming rights--Many say this is not doable and MANY others see what a jewel that this place is and can become---And what do you guys think???

I think of them more as the sea gulls that fly behind the shrimp boats. We are out doing the work, while they are just flying behind us looking for scraps.
