"Head coach Lon Badeaux was honored as the Men’s Track and Field Coach of the Year after his team had its highest finish in the conference meet since UL won it in 1997. UL’s Devin Davis also received 2012 Sun Belt Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships honors as he was named the Men’s Most Outstanding Freshman."
Congratulations to coach Lon Badeaux! Sun Belt Conference Track and Field Coach of the Year! Congratulations to the Ragin' Cajuns track and field athletes on leading UL to it's highest SBC finish since 1997. A great accomplishment indeed! All of this done in Lon's first year as head coach!
Way to go Cajuns!
I agree that many schools have recruited foreign runners instead of american kids. I also agree that many of the foreigners win conference crowns, but I have witnesses american kids score points in conference. Kelly's recruits will score points for the cajuns, if not next year definitely in two. The steeple points are wide open in the sunbelt.
I really like Kelly. The fact is, though, that her charges did not come close to scoring a point in this meet, men or women. Granted, it is her first year. We shall see. I do not expect us to ever be strong in those events, but if we can score 2-4 points in each distance event, it will help a lot. I hope I am pleasantly surprised.
One other fact. Louisiana HS track is beyond pathetic in distance events. We did get a decent miler from Catholic-BR this spring, so there is some hope, even though nationally he is not an elite runner. [He is US # 58 in the 1600 and unranked in the 3200. He is also unranked in the 1500 and the 3000.]
