I was going to ask about this group. I see that none are rated.. which of course means nothing... but I haven't seen any of them play.

Actually, all are rated with the exception of 3 (ironically, the 3 unrated players are some of the best available at their postions) with Pichon and Carter 3 star players.

Louisiana scout has those three players with a nat'l ranking of NR, and rating of NR.

All the new commitments will be rated a two star soon. Carter and Pinchon are 3 stars.

quick story and I will get off of my star soapbox.

This year we had 2 4star players starting for MSU. Derek Sherrod and Chad Bumphis

the rest of the team was 3 star or lower. Chris Relf was a 2star.

Point being, Good coaching trumps astrology. Ask Michigan what happened to their team full of 4stars.

JB, you will have to just excuse some of us for a while. Most of us, I believe, understand (at least to a rudimentary level) that the number of stars do not always equate to success on the field. But since our on-field success has been below expectations for so long, and with the new hope that Hud and company will produce an increase in new talent; we sometimes get caught up in the recruiting hype, grasping for the recognition that we are improving - - even if only in the eyes of Rivals of Scout ratings. Even when we have been shown in the past that ratings don't always mean that much (Fenroy ring a bell for anyone).

Here's to hoping we have a solid class with several young men that can compete and contriubute early, and turn this program around!

Yes John, but you have to understand that from a fan level, this is one of our ways to get an idea of what the perception is about our recruiting efforts and what those "experts" think about potential prospects we have on the radar. As fans, we have often no idea who these players are or what they have done and how to assess talent from one prospect to another. Therefore, the average fan to some degree relies on what they are rated to get at least an understanding of their projected ability. It is by no means a scientific process of understanding talent and the coaches likely care little about what star or numerical rankings prospects receive in order to rank their interest. I think we all understand that the system is very flawed when dealing with the lesser known names across the country and the less prestigious programs that are after them who get less attention from these "experts" which is why I'm not as giddy when we get a commit from either a ranked player or one unranked. If you look at Nevada and TCU's recruiting classes over the past few years in regards to their star rankings, its funny to see the many 2 star guys TCU has gotten and won 11 and 12 games with so I agree. However, from a fan perspective, the higher the rankings a player has the more attention has been paid to them and likely the more we will know about them prior to signing.
