Thread: Louisiana vs. Southeastern

  1. Default Re: Louisiana vs. Southeastern

I will say that William Long is an improvement at 3rd defensively, and helps us in the lineup. I like Poirrier back at 2nd, his natural position, which again, allows more bats in the lineup, with no bostick to give away an out. Guillory got a hit last night, RBI, and played some solid defense to boot. If we do go back to the opening day lineup, I'd like to give Ty Frederick a shot at 3rd. I know he can play the position, and has some pop.

Goulas started well, but as long as I've watched him play, he's never struck me as a 'clutch' hitter, nor a 3 hole hitter. He needs to be 6-8 in the lineup. It just seems, again, that we have no clutch hitters on this team.. something essential in Robe's philosophy of baseball.

Man u guys are a little quick to get rid of bostick at 2nd base. he is pretty dam good with the glove although he may not be quiet a good as others at the plate. To me, that's to big a trade off to get a little more productivity on offense. Right now I don't trust porrier anywhere

When we have Zach and Jud going, maybe.. But when we have to slug our way to a W, you have to sit Bostick. I like Kyle on defense as well, but we struggle to even manufactor runs..

Why is Marvel not playing. I thought he was a pretty good player in the fall.

I take offense to all the single A pitching comments! I just so happen to be a former single A pitcher, as well as catcher, third, second, and first baseman. Oh and I also coached During the early part of one year because we were in the basketball playoffs. Single A rocks!

I apologize and take back the "single A" comment. I have great respect for A schools, but I know ther preception is that they are not that strong.

From this moment forward I will use the term "Parc Hardy Bronco Team" (my roots are in Breaux Bridge so I can poke fun without hurting feelings) when trying to describe our team as playing to a level that is lower than a proud Division I program.

This team is not going to score a bunch of blowouts and will not average eight runs/game. I expect the Cajuns to pitch well. They can probably hit just enough. But they need to dramatically improve the defense.

I'm not saying they can't improve. They might have even played below their skill level, but these guys have been playing for 13, 14, 15 years now. They probably have reached their immediate potential defensively.

If they keep playing could they be significantly better in two or three years? Yes, probably. Jon Lucroy has raised his game all around to the point where he won't look out of place on a big league field. He was a good player when he got to UL and was a lot better when he left.

We are averaging 2.1 errors a game. The 2009 team had 82 errors and went no where. The 2008 team was abysmal in the fiield with 112 errors in 56 games. The 2007 team was loaded, had 90 errors in 60+ games and was successful. We don't have the offense of the 2007 team. If we don't fix the fielding, it will be a long year. It's a little early to tell who these guys are in the field. We'll know in a week or two, though.

It may be as simple as moving JP back to the middle for good. Hopefully their gloves will soften and their fingers loosen. I'm inclined to believe they are trying their best...... I hope they'll surprise me.

We are playing this weekend a USM team that has lost to Northwestern State and 2 of 3 to LeMoyne. If UL doesn't win at least 2 of 3 from USM at home, that should tell us what kind of season we will have. Getting killed by SLU was not good. Why do we always seem to start slow and hope and pray we develop over the year. We have gone 2 years in a row with losing baseball. It is time for UL baseball to return to prominence.

My biggest issue right now is the fact that we get all these recruits in......Marvel, Nichols, Switzenburg etc. and not one of them is good enough to crack the starting lineup. From what I read on here last year Robe told Benzel that he wouldn't have any playing time because we were bringing in some big time players at 3rd so he left and went back to Florida. I am not saying that if Benzel was still here that he should be starting, but where are these recruits.

My other question is why Robe gives up on some players so easily, i.e. Bostick, Switzenburg and he allows others like Fuse ample opportunity to come out of a slump.

I AM IN NO WAY TRYING TO SAY TONY NEEDS TO GO, just stating my feelings as a fan.

If it were up to me and I know it isn't this is what i would do to the lineup

    Bowman LF
    Olasin CF
    Goulas RF
    Porrier, Long 3rd/DH
    Bostick 2nd
    Fontenot SS
    Robicheaux 1st
    Keefer C

I know Robicheaux hasn't hit in two years, but atleast this would rid us of about half the errors that we have had between 1st and 3rd. Also I think Bowman is a better outfielder than Fuse and it would make the outfield very solid, while keeping the lineup pretty solid. Bostick hit well towards the latter half of the season last year. I think he can be effective with the bat given time.
