Cajuns Add Several Walk-Ons

  Louisiana’s Ragin’Cajuns football program has added several walk-ons this summer looking to compete for a 2009 roster spot.

I think its a good thing. From what I'm told, UL had a tryout, for students already enrolled at UL. That way, everyone who 'tried out' was academcally qualified, if they would somehow make the team. A good deal of them were eliminated on paper early in the tryouts. Only a handfull had a chance to eventually walk on. Most were former High School ballplayers who just didn't get a offer. I think from what I was told, 7 out of about 42 had a legitimate shot.
This is to be on the practice, or taxi squad. They will help in running the opposing teams offense, and defense. Sometimes, the outstanding scout team player of the week gets to dress out for a game.
Personally, I think its a good deal. You just never know who may walk on...and make a difference. Remember...Delhomme wasn't drafted....he 'walked on'....
2 minutes from a Super Bowl ring...it could happen.
