Another nice win for the Cajuns. Would be great to beat Texas A&M at least once this weekend.
The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Softball team opened play at the Texas A&M Invitational on Friday, February 27 with a statement, earning a 6-1 win over Saint Mary's at Davis Diamond in Bryan-College Station, Texas.
The Ragin' Cajuns (13-6) extended their winning streak to three games – remaining perfect on the current week – and collected their second victory over a ranked foe in February (Feb. 15 vs. Ole Miss).
Against Saint Mary's, Louisiana struck early. After loading the bases in the first inning, Emily Smith (1-for-3, HR, 4 RBI) launched a grand slam to right-center to give the Cajuns a 4-0 cushion they would not relinquish.
Smith finished with four RBI, while Dayzja Williams and Mia Liscano each collected two hits.
Saint Mary's (9-6) trimmed the deficit to 4-1 in the second, but Bethaney Noble (7.0 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 4 K) settled in the circle. Noble (4-0) scattered six hits and allowed one run over seven innings, striking out four.
Louisiana added single runs in the fourth and sixth innings, highlighted by a sacrifice fly from Kennedy Marceaux (1-for-2, 2 RBI) and an RBI single from Marceaux later in the game.
