Thread: Time to analyze the poor state of UL's basketball programs

  1. UL Basketball Time to analyze the poor state of UL's basketball programs

It’s a question that’s being asked a lot in recent weeks.

“What in the world is going on with UL’s basketball programs?”

It’s certainly a legitimate concern and the potential responses range from relatively simple to downright scary.

There is a direct correlation between the administration letting average everyday rigor mortise set in over 15 years and trying to wake the dead basketball programs.

    It's a fair article.

    Fair question.

Don’t see these two programs getting 11 wins combined. Only ULM has a lower rating in the SBC than UL.

The wbb side has always fought low attendance and apathy (1 NCAA appearance in over half a century). NIL just magnifies the issue. It’s FREE to go and the dome staff usually accounts for at least a third of the bodies in the building outside the “education” babysitting game.

Absolute joke from top to bottom. Again, we wait and then we wonder. These programs are well beyond rebuilding. These are major construction projects.

After the best year ever (and the coach gets hired away) they hire a local tie.

Kevin did write a very perceptive article, especially about the concern he had from the beginning about scoring. I can vouch he had an early worry as he often stated so on his radio show before the season started. I listen to his show regularly. Like he, I thought more scoring would occur from forcing turnovers and getting easy baskets in transition. Disappointing in that the exact opposite has happened as we are giving up easy baskets due to our turnovers. How much of this is due to the injury to our point guards is a question I cannot answer. The trouble we have had handling press is an issue that needs to be addressed before we can expect to win a game. Perhaps having a big come up and receive the entry pass and then find guys running the sideline is an option there. Not to be completely negative, some progress was observed the last 2 games. Fewer fouls were committed and we had the lead in the second half in both. Playing an occasional zone defense has helped with foul situation. The Lamar game showed hints of the plan going forward. Reason shots were made in the first half was due to on ball pressure being handled quickly allowing guys to get shots in rhythm. Starting the pure freshman Collin’s at point guard helped early and hopefully experience gained will allow him to be more consistent going forward.
