Losing access to Texas will hurt us in the long run. Lots of 2nd and 3rd generation recruits and donors are in the geographic footprint of Texas.

I hope UL finds it's way to a conference with Tulane or LA Tech, Rice and UNT.

The east side of the SBC does nothing for us outside of a championship game.
We have always recruited the Golden Triangle going back to the Stokely era, even while playing in the Big West. In addition to that East Texas as well all the way up to DFW. We don't need a presence in Texas to continue doing what this program has done for over 40 plus years.

The staff has plenty of contacts, former players and coaches in the Texas HS ranks. Sam Houston has the same problems as Tech and WKU, they have to pay a $5M buyout from Conference USA before they can even join the SBC. It's more than likely, anyone that joins from CUSA will have to pay the SBC back for paying their exit fee before they receive a dime from the SBC Media deal.

My problem with Sam Houston is they deliver no market and there is no history of a rivalry or hatred between our programs. I would much rather Tech or WKU. It's a hard no for me when even considering their program.

T, agree with your statement on Texas recruiting, a TX school is not required for our success. Remember back to the multiple football recruits out of Ball High in early 90's? Often comes down to relationships built. What's main area of concentration today... recruiting 300 mile radius of Lafayette?

If this is true and we still don't know the final evaluation, this is a clown show! 2031?

They will have paid off their exit fee and have an extra 5 mil in the bank by 2031.

Not a real lucrative move for them but it makes sense.

For Louisiana travel costs would have made it a wash.

We won't know till 2031 if it pays off for them long term.

Tell me again how much better off we are in the SBC.... I have said it before and I will continue saying it; the worst decision ever made by UL is not pushing hard to get in this conference. The difference in basketball revenue [ticket sales plus NCAA Tournament Units] would more than offset any increase in travel costs.

And everyone knows the PAC’s big 2 are gone at the first opportunity. This will end ugly.

More likely Stanford and Cal end up back in the PAC than WSU and OSU getting picked up by a P4 or P2 at this point

I agree with this. If any P4 wanted OSU or WSU, they would be there already.

If travel costs are a wash and we are making only $2M in the SBC, why is the PAC a bad move? It is a higher profile conference with better teams and better bowls plus Gonzaga in basketball. And if our fans aren't coming out to watch Sun Belt football, seems to be there would be a lot more to get our fans excited with a PAC schedule. Potentially more revenue from donations, attendance, bowl games and NCAA appearances, not to mention higher profile nationally.

You using Harvard math? Estimated travel cost for Texas St is somewhere between $2M to $3M more than the SBC. Now 1/2 of the rumored media rights is equal to the current SBC deal of $2M. And that remains until 2031. They will be losing money up front when you add in the $5M Exit Fee. So -$5M upfront, then additional travel cost and 1/2 media share is not breaking even.
