I saw this quote from someone on the CNSBBS board. I have to say I agree with this.
I definitely agree with you. ItÂ’s a higher profile conference from top to bottom. The biggest upgrade is in academics followed by basketball. Having the two biggest brands in football and basketball outside the power ranks is a huge upgrade over anything the Sun Belt has.
The way I see it, Texas State has ambitions. The majority of Sun Belt schools are content where they are and they see their conference as a long term project. The SBC is the MAC of the Southeast. ThereÂ’s absolutely nothing wrong with that. ItÂ’s given the MAC stability since the BCS era. But that type of stability or comfort zone can sometimes stop growth.
Why not send an RP contingent to act as univ.reps dress up in suits and meet with the PAC brass
Dr. Maggard chiming in on conference realignment via podcast with Jay (last third of pod).
Ragin' Cajun Connection - Dr. Brian Maggard
Paraphrasing on some key moments below:
DBM: In my opinion, SBC will not wait for PAC to make any more moves and remain at 13 (SBC will be inviting sooner than later reading bw the lines). Divisions are not going away.
JW: Has anyone at UL had conversations with PAC-12?
DBM: No
JW: Is it a good move for Texas State?
DBM: Texas State had to weigh increased TV dollar revenue + increased ticket sales vs. increased cost of travel (gave example of sending women soccer to Washington). They have run numbers, and it may work for them. For us? That's a long way away (distance to PAC teams), and we like geographic layout of SBC.
So basically, we dont have the money to compete in other conferences, therefore remain quiet.
So we wait for a Big 12 invite or stay in the SBC forever 🤔.
I don't like that UL didn't eeeeven reach out, but at least he addressed it and admitted it
PAC or ACC membership (Indi sailed) required to ever entertain any hope of a Big 12 invite.
ps now if we could ever get to the bottom of that 75% winning percentage math, this might all make sense.

If you objectively put yourself in Dr. Maggard/Dr. Savoie's shoes, where you have to operate within reality (deal with budgetary issues and not just dream of a different conference home with all things remaining equal), here's how we're different than Texas State:
Texas State is already a big geographic outlier in the SBC. SBC probably has no desire to expand further out west, so Texas State's travel costs remain the same with no relief. San Marcos has access to an international airport nearby. Texas State's travel expenses will not look that different from a PAC-12 conference slate vs. SBC conference slate, where we will feel a little more pain.
PAC-12/AAC/SBC/CUSA/MAC/MWC will all be competing for CFB G6 at-large bids in this new environment. From that standpoint, do we want to spend extra money on traveling in hopes that we can get more season ticket holders? Or do we put whatever we'd be spending on the higher travel costs towards the revenue share fund to help attract/retain talent?
It's just not as easy as a decision outside of a vacuum when you have to take everything into account. I'd personally love to be in the PAC-12 in its current setup, but I also understand why it's possibly not feasible.
Does this administration not understand UL/Acadiana fans could care less about the Sunbelt. We need to be always looking to improve our affiliation. At least he admitted we are not going anywhere. Good luck in selling season tickets to all sports. I am just about done with those guys. I once had high hopes for Maggard, he is just part of the Martin Hall mafia now. We need to clean house at MH yesterday.
