I saw a video of the McLeast AD wishing their fans Happy Memorial Day. Had to ask what was happy about Memorial Day. Got deleted.
My mom is still alive and clear mentally. She remembers that horrible day when they became a gold star family. She had another brother in a field hospital at the same time. Sadly, our leaders came see him in the hospital giving him a Purple Heart and told him of his brother’s death in Italy. He threw the PH at the brass, saying he didn’t want it.
War is ugly, but necessary at times.
My Dad's First Cousin
Former "Southwestern" student.
Killed in Angione Italy. Along with his first cousin Ruelle Broussard who's buried right next to him in Carencro.
Pvt Samuel Wilson Beckett 3rd Alabama Infantry, KIA Battle of Jonesboro, GA, Civil War
LCPL Robert Beckett USMC KIA USS Houston, Battle of Java Sea, WW II
Seaman Adrian Bramlett USN KIA USS Truxton, Western Atlantic, off Newfoundland, WW II
May they all rest in peace after making the ultimate sacrifice in defense of their country and our freedoms.
The first was my Great-grandfather. The others were my first cousins.
Also, lest we forget that not only our service personnel, but their families, make sacrifices to protect our nation and our freedom:
My great-great grand parents: William O. Beckett and Anne Ross Beckett, who sent 5 sons to defend the Confederacy, only 2 of whom returned.
My great grandmother Amy Stowe Beckett, left widowed with two small children.
My Uncle and Aunt Cullen Cornelius Beckett and Janie Ruth Beckett.
My Uncle and Aunt George L. Bramlett and Francis Beckett Bramlett.
These and all families of our fallen made great sacrifices as well. May they rest in peace.
Your uncle was more to the east. Different infantry group. My uncle was killed the next night at/near Anzio Beach (just south of Rome).
Was shipping home the next day for eye issues. Took another soldier’s watch to let him rest since the unit was moving the next day. He was jumped from behind.
