Loved his personality.. The guy was the personification of "ragin". Same way guys like Les Miles and Ed Orgeron resonate so well with LSU fans.
People soured because they realized that after decades of losing and being irrelevant, finally going 8-4 or 9-3 every year earned you the chance to be.... irrelevant.
No a coach that took us places we had never been 4 years in row was fired after 2 losing seasons because of his personality. His Schtick got old fast when he wasn’t winning. If you truly believe that then what do you want the university to do? Because in your eyes everyone is irrelevant outside of about 10-12 programs in the country. Even in year 4 when he was winning “everyone was tired of the ra ra” “I don’t want a cheerleader for a coach” how quickly some forget.
Great. We replaced him with a less "ra ra" coach who took us to even HIGHER program heights, and it netted us lower attendance and the same crappy bowl match ups.
Everyone outside of the top 10-15 programs IS irrelevant with the way college football is currently set up. How many more years do you think they let a G5 into a playoff game and give the #5 seed a free win?
UL and many more like them are so much closer to FCS status than they are to being in the national college football conversation.
All coaches need to get out in the public and engage the fan base. Personal interaction goes a long way. The AD and his staff/strategy ain't working. Results or lack thereof are glaring.
If they don’t build it through students we will never fill the stadium. That’s the only way, go look at every school that has great attendance year in and year out and look at their student section very game. They could start by not having 2 cops not stand on every third row the entire game arresting people.
