Focusing in on a small portion of sf21’s excellent post, does anyone else find it particularly odd that the guys on this current coaching staff seem to be infatuated with high velocity, “stuff” pitchers? Gunner wasn’t that guy in college. He just knew how to pitch. He could hit his spot with almost any pitch in his mix in any count. Deggs has always seemed like the type of guy who wants players who can do a job rather than being obsessed talents. Why this philosophy now? A guy like Hermann is a bit to the other extreme (he’s throwing fastballs in the high 70s lately), but when the alternative is guys like Dilhoff who have “stuff” but can’t throw a strike to save their lives, give me a PITCHER any day of the week.
