What are we complaining about—the “magic” phrase was uttered several times last night….
“All of our goals are STILL in front of us!”
10-2 is exactly where I’d thought we’d finish up. Almost to the T how I saw it going so far.
But this game was one that should have never been close. We were absolutely putrid on offense the majority of the game. We actually forgot there was even a 1st qtr to show up for.
I think everyone is ok with getting beaten. No one is ok with losing. There is a huge difference.
I know everyone is upset, especially with the way the 1st half went, coming out completely flat and digging ourselves a 21 point hole.
That said…personally, I was expecting another 6-7 season, or maybe a 7-6 one.
IF, and it’s still a big if, but if we can run off two wins to finish and host the SBC Champ game, I’ll be excited. It sucks that the chance for the “magical” season is gone, as now there’s probably no path to finish the season ranked Top 25, but there’s still the potential for a 12-2 season. We looked at Troy the past two seasons as the class of the West and the Belt, they were 12-2 and 11-3 the last two seasons.
Now that’s the kicker and why this was a HUGE letdown for many of us. These opportunities don’t come very often for G5 teams not named Boise…especially us just going off of our long history.
At the same time, finish 11-2 with a conference championship going into a bowl game…hopefully can be a momentum and recruiting builder for the Dez era.
