Uh oh, Zep....the Marlin Machine is gettin' revved up baby !!!!!!!
Having multiple guys with ability to hit open shots is key to being successful with the 3 ball. Defense can’t necessarily focus on one guy. When a team hits 18 threes twice in 4 games it is eye opening. That does not happen by accident. Shooters have to get to their spots at correct time. Point guards have to deliver the ball to the shooters in a position where they can quickly catch and release before the defense can close out. That often happens after dribble penetration towards the basket. The open shot often comes after the initial pass. Hockey assist often overlooked In basketball. Themus Fulks played only 17 minutes today as he is not 100 percent. However he lead the team when the Cajuns made their big run in the second half. He made the right play either with dribble penetration or finding the open guy consistently in that 10 minute stretch. Now there will be games in which everything is done appropriately to create the open shot and team still shoots below 25 percent. Luck is definitely a part of the 3 point game. To reach the level of success the team believes it is capable of, a better job will need to be done at preventing the ball from going inside. As we have little rim protection, one way to stop inside scoring is to put more pressure on the passer and cut off dribble penetration. We have done that at times but not consistently enough since the Youngstown game. After Monday night, we only have D1 games before conference play begins. Need to continue to develop team on the court chemistry during that time.
I really like Joe's defense. Kid has good hands to go with the long arms.
We need to take that JMU game and win our home MAC cross over game then win the regular season conference championship. Who knows!
