Me hearing "entire staff back in tact & Only one in FBS.....
Me on Aug 30: "That is pretty cool....should be a clear strength in our conference"
Also me on Nov 9: "Good Lord, we just lost to 2 ESPN bottom feeder teams in 5 days.....time to clean house"
Nothing will be done in relation to CMD's employment here until after the stadium is finished.
What we can do now is what Southern Miss did a few weeks ago. They made Hall give up the play calling, and shocker, they are winning.
2 biggest problems we have now are lack of discipline and play calling. Those are fixable, but this administration will not go through another HC search and hire before the stadium is done.
Because of what Hud and Napier were able to accomplish, and because of where Napier ended up, and because of the investment that the RCAF/Admin have put into the program over the last 2 decades, including a new stadium and the Assistant Salary Pool, this will be one of the most coveted jobs in all of the G5 for quite a while.
Vic will be along shortly to tell you that Des's wage is on par with almost every other Sunbelt coach..
MH could see that Maggard was going to continually push for more money to maintain the upward trajectory of the football program. As Vic will also point out, Maggard was able to line up funding to pay Napier if he decided to stay at UL. Clearly there are fans of this university who are willing to put their wallet behind an effort to create a winning program.
The problem for Martin Hall is that those fans also create expectations. Expectations that money donated through RCAF to help pay for coaches, ACTUALLY goes to coaches, not get raided by the university to fund some horse s*** on main campus.
How many years does Des have left on his contract? That is how long he will be here.
If we keep Bob Marlin for 10+ years, accomplishing very little, and he had no ties to our programs, then we are not going to get rid of a former Ragin Cajun QB turned Coach that was a pretty good QB and was raised 30 miles down the road.
The real issue is WHAT WAS THE JUSTIFICATION TO GIVE HIM A 5-YEAR, $3.8 MILLION CONTRACT? His base is $755,000/year even if they win zero games. He had less actual coaching experience than most high school coaches in our state. His salary should have been $100K/year at the most.
Exactly how I feel about both football and basketball.
I'm also worried about baseball. They have a beautiful stadium and just can't get it one since Tony Passed away. (Degg's 3-year record is takes us back to a level where the Cajuns were playing in the 1980's)
Thank God we have good softball and Water Ski teams!
