Music lovers and concert-goers were greeted by the UL cheerleaders this year, at Downtown Alive.

For the first time, Downtown Alive was sponsored by both Downtown Lafayette Unlimited and organizers from UL.

Margarita Perez, Dean of Students at UL said the Ragin' Cajuns were looking for a unique opportunity to bridge the gap between college students and Lafayette's culture.

"Our ultimate goal is to celebrate being a Ragin' Cajun and to recognize that students bring vibrancy to our community," Perez said. "When they're not here in the Summer, we recognize that they're not here."

Perez said UL students are walking distance from Downtown, so they can help generate the economy in the area.

I don’t want to stereotype but Margarita Perez Dean of Students interviewed in the clip doesn’t exactly look like a barrel of fun. She is the ultimate decision maker on student tailgating and what constitutes unacceptable behavior that gets one kicked out of a football game.

Wasn’t Dean Ed Pratt Dean of students back in the day? Can’t they find a someone like that, that actually had a real college experience? Someone who isn’t so woke for that job that can relate to the youths and understands what they do in the real world. Or at least someone that might have had an ounce of fun as a student.

. . . I heard a radio piece on 96.5 where they discussed two occasions where DTD are partnering with UL to get fans and students involved. This was one. The other is Gulf Brew where they said shuttles will be provided to encourage attendance at homecoming from Gulf Brew.
