SBC 2023 cross division football games

You make a fair point, but if everyone is playing 9 conference games it fairly evens out every two years. Nothing against the MAC but we keep scheduling HnH with that conference's teams although no rivalries are being built with MAC schools. Wouldn't the SBC and in turn its members be better served by playing in conference more; develop rivalries by actually playing more often? Will rather see us playing more Coastal or App for example instead of Ohio or Toledo. As for G5 out of conference games, consider the tables have turned on CUSA. They may be more than willing to schedule HnH with SBC teams now. And we've already got a few HnH's going with AAC. Maybe don't schedule an FCS on years with 5 conf. home games. And what about conference schedule flexing in late November? Match up stronger teams in conference. Oh, we were gonna play TX St., nope we're playing JMU instead. SBC goal should be positioning to get an SBC school in the expanded CFB playoff; get past the AAC media/playoff committee bias. Hoping the SBC will study all options, run the numbers. Change is needed or the same results will occur.

Unfortunately while flexing a game is a good idea in theory, it will never happen at the G5 level at least. Most of us are making plans well in advance on where we are going to go and how we are going to get there, if we are going to a road game. They are not going to replace a Texas State for a JMU because most people already have their flights, hotels and/or travel information already locked down. Now flexing a game time might be a better idea, meaning if you have a time slot for an ESPN network game already set and it ends up being a 2-7 team playing a 3-6 team because both teams were much worse then expected but you have a 8-1 and 7-2 team matchup that might be better for TV, then yes by all means we should look at it, but moving a game from one venue to another vs another foe is just too difficult that late in the season for both fans, teams and schools in general.

The closest anything like that occurred was the Covid season, where Covid Carolina set up a game vs BYU, but that was specifically because the Covid season occurred and both teams had bye weeks and both wanted a chance at a NY6 game.

For me, if I had planned an VRBO and travel to San Marcos, TX for late November and the conference changed it and all of a sudden I was playing in Huntington, WV (not that their is anything wrong with Huntington, I have been their it is a nice college town, not necessarily in late November, though), I would be a little ____ed.

I get your concern. Still traveling fans shouldn’t dictate anything. Normally if it’s not a car trip it’s a very small number of people. Don’t buy flights you can’t cancel or at least swap.

Exactly! This is about improving scheduling and supporting natural rivalries, not coerced ones. The conference goal should be improving home attendance and increasing viewership for featured games. This won't make everyone happy in the conference, but you should be able to get it done with enough members on board.
