Do you know how naive your post sounds? Sincerely, the people who are taking the kids have rights issues side are seriously, seriously underestimating how much time the devil takes in occupying a young person's mind. Then to say these people should have all the entitlements of working class stiffs for the honor of playing a kid's game for hometown U. which includes stuffing it in hometown U's face, but should not be expected to have the same responsibilities as the average Joe workforce is not only indemnifying that naivity, but also slapping the rest of society squarely in the face & telling all of us to suck on it. They are the new privileged kids in town simply because they can dominate 15 hours of people's lives a year.
If anyone thinks not only will that $25 million at Texas A&M be considered a business expense but the players will get that money untaxed...you haven’t been paying attention.
They have a talent that someone is willing to pay for. Two parties come to an financial agreement as to what that talent is worth. What difference does it make if it is playing football, a record contract, modeling contract or working at McDonalds. Should society not allow young adults to make significant money because the devil might get them? If the person receiving the money makes bad choices, that's on them. It is called capitalism. The system has changed and it is not likely to change to what it used to be. You can stomp your feet and yell how it is going to ruin society all you want but this is not going anywhere. Remember, this is windfall is only going to happen for a few and not the majority. Most will not get any huge amount of money. It seems that money is a bad idea for only for poor college athletes but good for everyone else. Some will make poor choices and hopefully learn from it.
Will NIL income change the status as a student? If so, will the benefits as an athlete, ie room and board, tuition and fees, books, health insurance become taxable income in addition to NIL? Why should/shouldn't they? If an athlete wants to make money like you and I do, should he/she fall under the same tax scenario?
When Texas says they will pay all O Linemen $50,000 each, is that NIL or simply buying players?

Hated not having him in Vermillion this year, but I think he got what he needed at UF. Showcased his ability at the top level and it'll pay off for him come draft time.
