If a player takes an NIL deal they should have to pay tax on any tuition, room, board & books as well if they make over the minimum amount of income. You want to learn how to make money earlier in life? You should learn how to pay taxes earlier in life as well.

The only way any university can make any kind of NIL deal work out long term & survive this inevitable disaster is to have a system that pays every player an equal amount of money. Hence the term team. The risks far exceed the rewards for a G-5 school.

Does every pro team pay everyone equally? Does every company pay everyone equally? College athletes are far more sophisticated than many give them credit for. They understand that some will make more money than others. They will have disagreements as athletes always have. The Alabama quarterback made much more than anyone on that team but they made it to the Championship game.

I wonder how NILs are structured, pay as you go or lump sum at the end of the season? Can’t imagine a payer giving lump sum nip front, but it’s a new world.

Crawfish you took the words right out of my mouth. Also, the average NIL deal according to Saturdaydownsouth.com is $471 so you are going to make the kid pay taxes on tuition, room, board, etc when you are talking about some guys making $200 or less. That makes no sense. The only way Kyle's plan could work is if the NCAA makes them pay taxes on any NIL deal over a certain amount.

Zoom if I had that kind of money I’d set it up along these line:

A nice bonus for signing up at the university.
Of course incentive for annual accomplishments
A fail safe clause for anything illegal, unethical or breaking NCAA rules.
Each year renewable. A very large post eligibility bonus provided no NCAA problems within the five year window the NCAA pretty much quits doing investigations.

The way I understand it is that they have to pay fair market value. Who determines that? I have no idea. But say you get a deal to promote something on social media or appear at a club. They can't give you $50,000 for one tweet or appearance. They can give you a contract that says you get $100.00 a tweet or $1000.00 per appearance. That can add up, but they can't pay you a ridiculous amount for something small.

Which is exactly why those ten thousand dollar jobs for watering the garden were abolished decades ago.

Do you know how naive your post sounds? Sincerely, the people who are taking the kids have rights issues side are seriously, seriously underestimating how much time the devil takes in occupying a young person's mind. Then to say these people should have all the entitlements of working class stiffs for the honor of playing a kid's game for hometown U. which includes stuffing it in hometown U's face, but should not be expected to have the same responsibilities as the average Joe workforce is not only indemnifying that naivity, but also slapping the rest of society squarely in the face & telling all of us to suck on it. They are the new privileged kids in town simply because they can dominate 15 hours of people's lives a year.

That I have no problem with, As long as the money is below 6000/year or some similar number. But to say these people shouldn't be taxed for the very thing the state provides for them to make an income altogether is ludicrous & unamerican.

If anyone thinks not only will that $25 million at Texas A&M be considered a business expense but the players will get that money untaxed...you haven’t been paying attention.
