If rose bowl or sugar bowl gets a replacement team if the conf champ normally associated with that bowl goes to a CFP semi, (i.e. if michigan wins big ten and goes to cfp, ohio state could replace them in rose bowl, if rose bowl wasnt a semi) why then didnt a g5 champ get to replace Cincinnati in one of last years NY6 games?

NMST is 5-6 and playing FCS Valparasio today. I don’t see them even being bowl eligible with that being their 2nd FCS win of the 6. First was Lamar.
