A swing is an attempt at a pitch, that is not a bunt. That includes what is referred to as a “checked swing” or “half swing.” It is up to the judgment of the umpire(s) if the batter attempted at a pitched ball. Contrary to popular belief, a batter does not have to “break his/her wrist” in order to attempt at a pitch.

I agree with you but generally, factors such as whether the bat passes the front of the plate or the batter pulls their wrists back are considered in the ruling. "Some" umpires prefer to use the "breaking the wrists" criterion as the method to decide a checked swing: if the wrists "rolled over", a swing occurred.

These umpires this weekend at home plate were bad except the Saturday guy. They lost track of outs, pitch counts, etc...I hope this crew doesn't work the conference tournament games. Everyone knows Jourdyn didn't come close to swinging regardless of the ruling/criteria.

They likely would have made up more ground if not for the weather. App has a decent squad. I don't think USA would have swept them. USA going 2-1 or 1-1 would have been more beneficial than them going 1-0.

App is about like Georgia State or ULM; I don't see them doing better than 1-2 in a full series with USA. That said, your last sentence is absolutely correct.

Isn’t 2-1 the same as 1-0 as far as games in the standings? Would help for win percentage but we’d still be the same amount of GB

And the home plate ump didn't even appeal to the base ump. Not close to going around. Except for the home plate guy Saturday, a bad crew.

If a strike is called first, it can not be appealed. Also only the defense can ask to appeal.
