Director of Basketball Operations Mike Murphy filled in for head coach Bob Marlin
"Why is the Friday game at 4pm?
"Because were playing at Texas State."
LOLa
My Q: Why no BB games after 4pm on Saturday? Football does it.
Good info.
No games after 4 PM on Saturday is a conference rule. It is for this year only. Reason is to allow road teams to head home immediately after the game and get back at a reasonable hour. It saves a hotel night in many cases. Cost cutting measure and one night less in hotel may minimize virus exposure as well.
It is what it is, but I still don't get it.
4pm Saturday start times lower the quality of basketball as it makes for a 20-hour turnaround between games. (Not that it would be easy to tell if both teams are tired.)
I don't see a 9pm game finish as requiring another hotel night. Are there pressing needs to where 2-hours make a difference arriving home Saturday night or Sunday morning?
ps I enjoyed Mike Murphy's answering media questions.
If you are playing 2 games a week and they happen to be back to back like ours are, I don't think that is a big negative to kids of that age. High school kids do this all the time during holiday tournament season. Yes, I know their games are shorter but the same premise applies. Besides, its going to be back to back so what is the difference in a couple of hours game time start? The players are not going to be any fresher with that 2 hour cushion.
