Cadwell (thanks for spelling correction) won't be a savior. He will be just a steady player with high basketball IQ (he is an outstanding student and may graduate early). He will almost always make the correct play. He is someone who will average about 8 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists. He will also be a more than solid defensive player. That won't turn a program around on it's own but can help right the ship if other guys improve. I mentioned Wilson and Julien earlier because they have shown flashes of good play this year. I did not say we will have a successful season next year. No way will I go that far out on a limb due to what has occurred this year. I said IF we have a good year, those three guys will be largely responsible for it. Again, IF that happens there is reason to believe the following season will be successful.
I think your reaching to get that take from his post. In my opinion Mike is saying that if there is success next season the cupboard would not be bare and we would not be looking at a complete rebuild heading into the 21-22 season with the way the roster is currently set. As of now there would be 4 seniors on next years team so a solid recruiting class would be needed. There is one commit from the class of 21 as of now in Joe Charles from Carencro. Of course speculation about 2 years from now is well.... a lot of speculation, many things could change in the meantime.
Thanks for clarifying my point. My original thought was to respond to someone who said we could improve next year but would drop off the following year. One more issue to clarify. I did say I believe we will be in top three next year if we are healthy. I also said I won’t go out on a limb to say we will be successful next year. The way to reconcile those two apparent contradictory statements is to look at the health issues. No way to have confidence we won’t have health issues when three guys are coming off knee surgery and two others have had chronic foot issues.
Well that’s an interesting way of looking at things. Of course none are actually in competition with the others. Their sport circumstances, or history if you will has a great deal to do with their success.
Of course if you’re taking over a failed program you should get a decent grace period. Brodhead was in that circumstance when he took over. He’s way beyond the grace period. If you taking over a very successful program pretty much near it’s zenith your name is Glasco, but under very steep circumstances and departures of some of your best talent. He coulda gotten a grace period. Instead he performed at a very high level. Our soccer coach took over a disaster yet set historic highs.
Bobby Big Fish took over a program in disarray but not devoid of talent. Maybe his first year was his best. I wouldn’t keep him under any circumstance in the future short of regular season championship, tournament championship, and a very competitive game in the NCAA. Goodness gracious he’s will be starting his second decade of mediocrity in the 20/21 season.
I'd take Brad Boyd right now, with no college coaching experience, over Marlin right now.
