Nobody on this forum can argue with a straignt face that "the SBC is dragging us down in basketball" in one breath, then in the next say "I consider 4th place to be accsptable."
If we were in the WCC where it is Gonzaga, St. Mary's, BYU and 9 horrible teams, maybe I could buy that stand, but there are never 3 teams in the SBC better than what I expect from the Cajuns.
More post season appearances is always good, but to get those, we have to be 1st, either in the regular season or in the tournament. I expect at least two post season appearances every 5 years. We are paying our coach half a mil a year. I dont think a 40% post season rate is too much to ask.
Nope. You’re right on this. Just look at softball. Our conference is pretty weak, but we still stay in the top 25. The whole “the conference is dragging us down in basketball” is an excuse for the resources that we have.
But again, my standards are a 1-2 combo. The problem is that we have done one without the other, which is not good enough for the standards that we should have. Again, if we finish fourth with no postseason, that’s disappointing. But if we finish 2nd-3rd and lose in the tournament final without an NIT invite, I might be able to live with that. With that said, I’ve mentioned before that these coaches got a nice pay raise last year to where these standards are going to be looked upon from fans and admin alike with a microscope.
The problem is that he’s only done one every 4.5 years, and in the other years it’s pretty much middle of the pack. The SBC as currently composed is Ga State, and one other team every four years or so. And those take turns being awful. It’s our turn to be awful. In no way is your cupcake minimum ever been attained for more than one season. Well maybe that awfully weak 4th several times. But it was usually part of the regular and tournament season as well.
