Thread: Sorry Boomer [Massey]

I like when our number gets smaller. I dislike when it gets larger.

I have my doubts that the people ranking these teams have seen very many of the teams below number 30 or outside of the P5 ever actually play.

I want an outright sunbelt championship and a bowl win.

Now that is squaring things up and getting to the root.

Imagine how massey it would get if they did.

But since we are talking about it, my point stands. It could be 1 million dudes and their computer and it would still be an amalgamation of OPINIONS. Not a massaging of data based on measuring a measurable thing. If I asked 1 million people their opinion on the best color, would the ranking somehow become a factual indication of "bestness"? Or would it be a ranking of favorite? There is no way to pin accuracy to a subjective ranking like this one, no matter how many subjective opinions you get and add up, divide, or square root.
With great respect Charlie, isn’t that how the AP and Coaches’ Polls work? Opinion? So Massey is no worse than they, in fact better due to larger sample size....?

It is a way to measure ourselves against our peers. It helps us see if we are making progress as a program against other programs in and out of our conference.

Oh it's probably much better. Massey has value. I mostly like busting Boomer's balls on it because he thinks the extra math somehow makes it "correct". Think about all the historical bias, judgments made based off of never seeing the teams, inability for actual head to head matchups, etc etc that make the number dubious.

It's fun to look at. If our number goes down, me happy, if it goes up me not as happy.

I prefer this to that other poll we used to track. The ESPN Bottom 10

.........So you get the Ws and Ls and to whom they played.....you get the teams the opponents played and those results......you get the home or away factor......you get game reviews and extra crazies of the games and see how competitive each team can be against whom.... based upon this you judge them.....subjectivity might come in to play but obviously objectivity is present with a pretty large sample size......also don’t forget the rankers themselves wanting an accurate account to brag about in projecting games!

A Popeyes Spicy Chicken Sandwich awarded to you. Post of the season, and I don’t even need to see October through December to pick the winner.
