Nobody forgets. How could we? It's the only measurable success we've had in the past 7-8 years. Unfortunately, its the exception and not the norm. I always speak about building a program that is based on consistent winning and the NIT and NCAA appearances will be a direct result of consistent winning. I was proud of that season a couple of years ago and we played a great brand of ball. However, we have had to completely revamp our roster because the roster we had leading into this year was an inferior roster talent wise to win a fairly bad SBC.
Your current position always points back to that one season. One season in 10 years and this is the one thing you can point to to show us we are unreasonable fans. Outside of this ONE season, marlin is barely above 50% winning percentage in a bad conference with only 1-2 unwinnable games a year. That's without having us in a position where we can compete nationally where we shouldn't really have unwinnable games on our schedule to begin with.
What Championship did we win 2 years ago. The Reg season, which means absolutely zero when it comes to not going to NCAA tourney only 1 time in 10 years
Because that one season was an anomaly. Sure, it was a fantastic year. And I would love to have more of them. But since then, we have made a complete roster overhaul due to average recruiting. And now, it looks like making any postseason appearance might be a long shot in the near future. If that ends up being the case, that would mean one NCAA and NIT appearance in 10 years. We can do better.
This staff needs to win more meaningful games moving forward.
That was an amazing accomplishment and is where we need to start with that winning foundation. We should be winning the regular season more often. It shows measured success over a longer portion of the season. A "larger sample size" if you will and you are guaranteed a spot in the NIT if you fail in the conference tournament which is what happened to us.
The NCAA is definitely an end goal but if you don't make it doesn't make your season a failure. If you go 30-4, win the conference but falter in the conference tournament but you get to NIT final 4 is that a worse year than going say....19-18, finishing 5th in conference but getting on a roll in the conference tournament and getting beat by 25 to a #2 seed in the NCAA?
