If he was expecting 5th or 6th round money, I don't think he's getting it. He'll probably be back now.

Really? Only one guy a year gets drafted as high as he thinks he should. Most of the top picks still sign, though. Seniors sign at about a 90% discount off junior bonuses.

His season was nothing to boast about. Maybe 5th or 6th round if he had a solid season.

  5. Default preemptive mention on leverage

If Danny comes back and has a successful season he will have more leverage than he knows what to do with.

"Success" the best leverage there is.

I still thinks he goes. When you are an underclassman you have much more negotiating power. He may still get 5th/6th round money. He may also decide to return and get drafted much higher with a good season and not get any more money.

I hope he returns, because he could help this program and he has great stuff. If he is put back into the bullpen I think he will once again shine.

I would like Danny to return but I think he will leave. Hope he gets the best advice he can.

Pitcher drafted 26th pick in the 1st round (Daniel Schlereth) this year was drafted last year as a junior in the sixth or seventh round last year as a junior. I'm sure it happens both ways, but I have to believe you have more leverage when you actually have a good season prior to when you get drafted. Danny has great stuff, but this year he had issues throwing strikes, and was up in the zone quite a bit which resulted in plenty of home runs. That's a killer in college, and more so in the pro's.

He has way more leverage know as a Junior even with a bad season, as a Senior he cannot leverage going back to school. With the MLB draft a Junior has the most leverage for negotiating the bonus
