From 1983 thru 2018, 35 years, we've made the NCAA six times.

But that averages about once every six years. Went ELEVEN years until Marty found a nut, twice.

Then a six year run without an appearance, then nine until Marlin's 2014 team.

Am I ecstatic, no. This run isn't what I like but is within the norm of UL basketball. Even with Marty or Jessie, neither could get it done today any better than Marlin.

It would just be nice to give kudos for EARNING an honor, that like it or not, ends up with our university’s basketball cosch’s resume’ attached to it.

Need something to really complain about? Should have been at that dumpster fire at the dome tonight. Team hasn’t been able to shoot and/or possess in years.

Napier is and will be held to a much higher standard than Baldwin, bustle and Hud. Not sure why marlin is excluded from that which is why i think people are frustrated. Are we going for more of the same or reaching higher? The question is did it take 8 years for marlin to find a nut? Or has he built something? We will know in the next 2 seasons, IMO we will be searching for a coach after the 2020 season.

I've given up as far as trying to make anyone understand, IMHO, every time someone gets all pumped up and pops a chubby over a possible G-5 championship or a mid major award or poll, it plays against everything this entire program has worked for since the late 70's, and even further back before USL was even a member of the NCAA. I cringe every time I see that.

I can't stand the buy in tournaments for basketball it does just as you say makes our team look like they play in FCS of basketball.

Bet you a po boy that is not the case. Note, I have no inside knowledge of anything in this regard. Just my prediction. I do agree the thread has gotten off topic. Coach Marlin deserves to be congratulated for that honor. That is different than what is going on here now.

ALL our sports are in survival mode. Softball included. SEC just dumped a boatload across the league in stadiums, they want their ROI. Go look at those brackets last year.

I trust Maggard. I made the statement before he was hired it was THE most important hire since Terry Don Phillips. This is becoming reality. He has made outstanding hires and dismissals. If Maggard, who has made these other great decisions opted to give Marlin an extension and Broadhead more time, I'm not questioning him. He knows the landscape and the behind the scenes moves way better than we all do collectively.

Marlin EARNED an honor being recognized for an achievement that eventually helped him land here. I’d rather have that for any coach in any sport than one never recognized.
